The - probably - true purpose of global unity

People keep complaining that the culture spread rate of global unity is unimpressive. While that is true, having a few planets together with this upgrade will permanently save you the need to build any temples. Unless your enemy goes on a a fully cultural assault, your planets alone repell any hostile culture permanently. That is nice as it allows you to build more tradeports.

Perhaps thats the entire idea of it?

Still, for balancing purposes, I would suggest to have it way earlier than Tech 5.... Tech 2 imho would be perfect and give the AL a much needed edge early on.

except culture pushes aren't a viable strategy to begin with-so being able tod efend against them more cheaply isn't much of an advantage.  It's like giving a late game tech that makes you better able to combat large fleets of scouts.

Given that it requires, what, 4 labs and all the culture pre-reqs, it's probably most useful when capturing using the titan to capture worlds deep in enemy territory so you have time to throw up some other structures without being overthrown.

That's all i can think of.

It requires 5 labs and is a stand alone tech - doesn't require any other culture ones. It is a cheaper way to make the enemy have to spend more in order to counteract culture spread. 5 labs is quite high for what it does though - it's hard to justify investing in tier5 harmony for that alone - the more essential harmony techs are at tier3, which is maybe a better level to move this to.

IMO the main feature is that all else being equal, it ensures you'll have your culture combat bonuses on all of your planets, save in the face of a really strong culture assault, though having a cap in the battle should be more than enough to repel it.

Personally I think the bugged version should of stayed(with minor revisions of course)

If your advent and have culture at all you already have at least 2 stations, so only 3 more and you have free culture on all your planets.  If you have trade you already have at least 3 stations, so just 2 more and you have free culture on all planets.  Those 2 or 3 extra stations are cheaper then 2 or 3 culture structures.

Plus, once I have culture my opponents are forced to build a few additional research stations themselves.

That said, I do agree the tech is underwhelming.  Especially considering the tech is disabled once you lose 5 stations, while techs like pervasive economy continue even after you lose your science labs.  The awesome techs can't be stopped, but this mediocre tech for the AL can be stopped.

I started a game as Advent Rebels after posting this and thought, "Crap, I mixed this up with Confluence (thats the cheaper temple of communion I think)."
