Rebellion - Problems

ok, played the game since the original release and have had little problems.

 

However, playing online with rebellion and having some serious issues.

In former versions, I could in early and mid game, spam produce Kol Battleships and Cobalt Frigates to a level in which I could overwhelm enemy fleets with superior firepower and numbers. However, playing just 3 games I received the stomping of a lifetime.

 

One game I had a fleet assembling on an asteroid base and an enemy moved in. He came in with a Kol and about 40 of those new corvettes. I am setting there with bases defenses (4 fighters, 4 bombers, gauss turret) and 4 Kols and about 30 cobalts. Some how in some way, I never could get his Kols haul below 2000 points. Meanwhile I lost ship after ship, even with replacing lost forces from the factories at the base. Long story short, I lost a total of 8 Kols and over 70 cobalts while he lost only about 10 of those corvettes.

 

What I need is for someone to explain to me how this game got turned on its head. This was a situation I should have won with only mild loses to his total. Yet, that is not the case. Did our ships get restated? Maybe new midagtion rules? Or are those Corvettes that powerful?

Yes the early game has changed. Corvettes are extremely powerful units, and are good against just about every kind of unit. In groups of 30+, they tear apart most frigates. Because of their damage and their speed, they are typically the go to unit in the early game.

Really, those 30 cobalt frigates of yours should have been corvettes if you wanted to stand a chance. Alternatively, you could have made about 10-20 flak frigates. Flak frigates are extremely good against corvettes and are the reason why corvettes become useless in the mid game.

Why is anyone building Kols online? Serious, only build Kols if you're getting a pounding from swarms of bombers. Your starting capitalship should either be an Akkan or a Sova, and later on the Dunov and Marza are much better caps that the Kol.

Second, yes Corvettes are quite strong right now. You should build one military lab right away just to research them, build no more than one or two LFs. You'll also want to get some flak out fairly soon to counter your opponents Corvettes. Then as the situation requires you can expand into LRMs to counter enemy capitalships and/or robotic cruisers. Though some games might stay dominated by corvettes the whole time.
