Random start locations frustrating the hell out of me

Seriously, when can I choose my start location? People have been asking for this feature since '08 and I have yet to find any kind of solution on any website. And I haven't used the editor, nor do I want to take the time. All vanilla maps should have the option right off the bat. It doesn't make any sense when you have a teammate getting some sandwich action between 2 opponents on the other side of the freaking system.

A couple of maps like Razors Edge will start you next to team mates. There maybe more with the new map pack coming out as well.

This can be easily obtained, on any map, by setting randomizeStartingPositions to FALSE, which can be done in Notepad, and then the game will generate starting positions based on the actual order of players in the player list (i.e. player 1 will be next to player 2, player 2 will be next to player 3, etc).

We will see if the new map pack will change things.

THe more bugging the devs about this stuff the more likely they will bother to not do nothing about it.

keep it up.

The ideal would be to have a designed map that could have a random section.  One where homeworlds and their surrounding worlds could be set and then a random area connecting them all

Pbhead, not bugging them has not done anything either. I think about 3 years ago Brad (AKA Frogboy) asked us to send him an email about how to fix the start separated nonsense.  I sent him an email about an idea similar to what Civ4 used at the time. Nothing came of it. So I don't think we'll ever get this taken care of.
