Whats the gameplay like? Is it standard RTS base building, mine resources, build your units and attack, like supreme commannder/command and conquer etc?
End of quote

It's like GalCiv meets Supreme Commander...

It's slow at times, and yet fast-paced at others.

Is their campaign/skirmish/online?
End of quote

No campaign, each mission is called a 'scenario,' and is simply played much like a normal match in SupCom.

Any other RTS like it?
End of quote

Galactic Civilizations, but that's turn-based, whereas Sins is real-time

how many factions?
End of quote

Tough question, 3 in the regular game, and that number technically increases to 6 with Rebellion.

Does it get repetive or is there new fun every game in your opinion of course?
End of quote

I have never stopped loving the game, and I don't feel that it is repetitive.

are there many tactics or just the simple steamroll and hit and run and rush?
End of quote

way too many tactics to list.

How many units are their per army? on youtube i could only see the titans/fighters and maybe 2/3 others, is that it?
End of quote

however many you build. Good fights have 100s of ships.

How much do you enjoy it?
End of quote

See above.

Is their any difference between the steam version and retail?
End of quote

Not really, though I recommend buying the Rebellion expansion through Steam..

The only real difference is that the retail version runs on the Impulse/Gamestop platform.

any issues with windows 7?

no

does rebellion have all the previous content? and could i play rebellion with someone who only has the original?
End of quote

Yes

Yes

any other general info you can provide

cheers

Buy it and try it out for yourself.

The game is truly a unique experience, and when you're bored with it, you can mod the game after.

EDIT
Oh heck, this experiment didn't turn out so well

HOW DO I FIX IT

Rebellion uses steamworks. There is currently no retail version, and you will need to use steam regardless where you purchase it.

If you purchase the earlier versions of the game, those are the same regardless where you get them (they do not use steamworks, so the steam version is no different from buying elsewhere and adding it to your steam list manually).

and could i play rebellion with someone who only has the original?
End of quote

If you only have Rebellion, you can only play multiplayer with other Rebellion users. If you wish to play with those who do not have Rebellion, you would need the appropriate earlier version(s) of the game.

Cool that answers most of my questions thanks

but each of you gave conflicting answers regarding if I bought rebellion from steam, could I play a game with someone who only has the original?

And with the units question, I didn't really explain it too well but how many units are their roguhly per army as in I think their is titan/corvette/fighter/capital etc

so what other types of ship are there and is there only one version of each for each army? I ask so if yes that means theres only 3 (or 6) capital ships which mean their probably be a strongest one.

Well Krdaxdrkrun is a forum member and Kyro is a big wig of Stardock. So pick who you wish to believe.

Titans - One per faction. You can only build one at a time.

Capital Ships - 6 types build up to 16.

Frigates - Split between Frigates and Cruisers in build list. About 9 in each list. Corvettes kinda/sorta counted as frigates (its a long story). Build as many as you have supply. Have had hundreds.

Strike Craft - Fighters and Bombers. Built from Carriers Cruiser (2 for TEC and Vasari and 3 for Advent) plus from Capital ships and Titans with amounts varying between types of Caps and level of said cap.

Note that Kryo has a white "Stardock" thing below his avatar...he is a dev (for Stardock, Ironclad devs have orange life jackets usually) and there are many of them on the forums...

I would bet that KrdaxDrkrun probably thought you were talking about multiplayer in general (and it is true that Rebellion has multiplayer)...

Technically, you cannot play Rebellion with people who only own Original, Entrenchment, or Diplomacy...as Kryo said, you'd have to buy those versions seperately (which serves no purpose other than to play with others who only own those versions)...for what it's worth, if you have a friend who owns an older version of Sins, I'd strongly encourage you to convince them to get Rebellion....you will likely not what to go back to previous versions once you've played Rebellion...

Strikecraft (fighters and bombers), Corvettes, Frigates, Cruisers, Capital Ships, Titans.

Thanks,

I got the game now and played 2 games, 2nd one lasting 4 hours on normal but i always found myself low on resources and trouble building a large force

so is there an easy way to build up resource fast? I never used trade hubs but did have several systems colonized

also out of the 3 races, what role does each play best in? Who is the best offensive guy and who is the best defensive guy mainly

Is there any way to start with all research?

what sort of buildings should I be building on each base? Is it worth getting defences or only for the outer systems?

cheers

First of all, try playing on the faster game settings if you weren't already.

Trade is the best way to earn money mid-late game. Early game, colonizing as many planets as fast as possible is the most cost efficient way to get resources, and it gives you to infrastructure for more trade and research facilities later.

Did you get Rebellion or Trinity? In Rebellion there are six subfactions. The TEC factions are split exactly by offense/defense. The TEC loyalists are very defensive while the TEC Rebels are entirely offense focused. The Advent Loyalists are also pretty defensive, focusing on culture. The Advent and Vasari Rebels can be played either way, and the Vasari Loyalists actually play pretty offensively despite having mostly economic bonuses.

For Trinity, the 3 races aren't really divided by those basic strategies very much. They all can be good at offense and defense. The TEC focuses on being simple and cost effective, with the best economy and raw stats it can either try to steam role or win a war of attrition, but it lacks some the great and complicated end game capacities the other factions have. The Advent are all about synergies; an Advent fleet is far stronger than the sum of its parts as its units work together, though they are considered to have the worst economy. The Vasari units are the least cost effective but they have access to all sorts of special abilities the other factions can only dream of, (such as connecting distant planets with phase gates, shield bypassing phase missiles etc).

Yes, but you have to use the developer .exe instead of the normal .exe....

Go to the location of the game files (where all the other steam games are stored) and find this program:

Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion Dev.exe

If you play via the dev.exe, you can bring up an editing menu while in a game by pressing three keys simultaneously:

Ctrl + Shift + . (the control key, the shift key, and the period key)

Use letters and the sideways carrots to navigate the menu...IIRC correctly, you will want to press A (change galaxy), then D (change player), then look for something that gives all research to you (you can switch players by pressing B if you wanted to play/change one of the other players on the map)....

You don't use the in game map designer to do that. Its only for generating random maps, based on some input you give it. To make a map where you specify the exact position and make up of the map, use the Galaxy Forge tool, included in your Rebellion install directory (in the steamapp folder).

Okay so I made a map with the galaxy forge but how do I activate it for the game? I saved it in this folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sins of a solar empire rebellion\Galaxy Forge

And is there a requirements for making a map? like something you must do before it work/?

The directory you'll want to be in is:

My Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\GalaxyForge

Then simply go into the game and start single player match and change the type.  You'll cycle through small, medium, and large games before coming to galaxy forge and custom random maps.

Do you know how long it took me to figure that out?  I must have played on point blank and quickstrike for 3 months before I realized there were larger maps...and that the random ones were actually good...

I also used to think Galaxy Forge was just some forum slang for the Map Designer...

But alas, that's all behind me...and good ridance too...

FYI Thorny, right clicking on most selection buttons in Sins will cycle backwards, which sometimes is a little quicker...

Just another quick question, regarding setting up a defence of a planet, What is the best way to do it with each race? I have rebellion btw

With the TEC I do dual starbase next to each other with 3-5 repair stations, 1 phase delayer and the rest hangars for anti flak with fighters inside with the starbases been upgraded for max weapons and armour then the rest into strikecraft and some anti flak, long range frigates and strike craft holders in the center. and usually a capital that captures planets for the range/accuracy bonus

That defence will pretty much hold against most of what the AI will throw at me  however I can never seem to do the same with the advent

I do the same in units basically with a strikecraft capital for the rate of fire bonus with one starbase with max weapons/armour/meteor and I think it's one left over which I throw into strikecraft, again with 3-5 repair, phase delayer and the rest hangars for strikecraft and shield bonus however this seems to be squashed pretty easily by the AI.

So any ideas for to improve these?

and what sort of strategy so i do for an orkulus starbase? I never really use vasari

cheers

Advent star bases work best with both meteor control and Mass Distortion maxed out. Then pick and choose. I go with max health with as much weapons as possible.
