Vasari SB trouble with orgrovs

I used to play Vasari alot and tried again. But the problem seems to be that Defense and Armour upgrades cost 7 out of 8 upgrade points, leaving only 1 for other uses. So if you play Vasari, how do you defend your planet? Do you put all your defensive structures in a cluster and keep your Orkie closeby? Spread them out? What do you build? What Orkie upgrades do you use? What do you do if your fleet isnt nearby and you dont have phase stabilizer and the enemy comes in with a bunch of Orgrovs? Im kind of a turtler and like to play TEC Loyal or rebellious but I like to play all the races once in awhile. At least with TEC SB's you can put 3 in defense, 2 in offense, and 3 in strike craft, and with your other hangars you can take out the orgrovs

Vasari are the hardest to defend with. The Orky is designed to be just as much an offensive force as a defensive force, thus in pure staying power its inferior to the Argonov and especially the Trancencia. The big thing that kills it is the lack of AoE damage abilities, though it has better base weapons.

The fact that it can move makes it by far the best starbase for dealing with small amounts of antistructure cruisers or carrier, but the lackluster Vasari repair bay does cause it problems in mass. You could keep a couple of Subverters around and just try to disable formations of Orgrovs, but really turtling with the Vasari is such a waste of their potential. They are the most over powered race but they do require a bit more skill, if you don't wish to play them like that you will have more difficulty.

Tech deflector screens. Then, invest a point or two if you expect the SB to confront Ogrovs.

Deflector screen is the one the reduces damage inflicted on the front of your SB. The second level increases your mana pool. It's in the Defense tree.

Ogrov pack hits hard but they have a long cooldown. By the time they fire again, your deflector will also be cooled down. And, in part due to their long range, they will all be firing from the same position (and will all be dampened by deflector); point the SB toward them and activate (or autocast) deflector. If they're unescorted, bring up a subverter and rip them apart, but if they have a support complement, you should bring in your fleet.

What makes them so overpowered? The moving starbase, gravity well moving starbase, phase stabilizer, and their titan is exceptionally hard to kill, but other than that the economy is weak and its tough to defend.

So is it generally agreed upon that the Transcendia is the most powerful or durable starbase? I am able to hold off waves upon waves of enemies with its 2 upgrades of meteor shower, in my opinion one of the best researches in the game

Mass Disorientation drastically cuts the DPS of enemy forces and meteor pummels frigates.

Well right now gravity well moving starbases and striped to the core, depending on the faction, but even before Rebellion they were probably the best with phase missiles, stabalizers, Kosturas and Skirantras. In competitive play though if you're defending, that usually means losing. In a game I played last night for example, our teams front line was a VR and a VL. Both successfully starbased their closest opponents home world, and both immediately rushed to Starbase mobilization and SttC. Before long the Rebel player had several starbases defending our territory and even raiding their economy player's planets, and by the time their only intact player sent his sizeable fleet at us both me and our other Eco player (both TEC Rebels) just built Novaliths and they called it a game.

Most powerful. The Argonov might take more hits but since the Transcendia can take out torpedo cruisers with meteor storm it doesn't really work that way in practice.
