How it all began
ere is the history of modding as I have know it....
In the beginning, 2007, when the Old Ones still strode openly in the cosmos--there were those anointed as Alpha and Beta. Verily these were the First Ones--those who laid eyes and hand upon the great engine of Iron before mortal man had ever seen or heard of it.
The Makers--those Starclad beings who reside in the deepest reaches of space, were eager to please. The Iron had yet to be forged and tempered--even the great D'evs were not certain how it would be received once in the hand of man and for a time the Makers, Alphas and Betas walked almost as one. Secrets were shared, changes were made and detailed questions were answered. Great mysteries were discovered and made known in these times--even answers from the Ward of Starclad itself were given.
Then came the day of release, 2008. More hordes poured into the game--vast numbers that darkened the skies and clouded the plains. Great was the joy and tumult. Even when the terrible B'ug Invasion began, the valiant few who had learned to master the incantations of modding and code still held firm--sending in reports and feedback to the magnificent palace of Iron in the Stars. The villainous D'syncs were laid to rest through the years of Entrenchment and Diplomacy and in time the D'bugs and D'syncs were nearly completely eliminated.
But the long battle had taken it's toll. Many of the Old Ones had wearied of the fight. The D'bugs and D'syncs had whittled away at their souls and allowed darknesss to creep in. They began to mutter and curse beneath their breath and listened to the siren calls of Halo and Mass Effect and other evils from the deep.
Much knowledge was lost with their departure and the heroes of the epic wars--the M'odders, were content to stay in their castles of ability. Few of them felt the plight of the n'oobs and uninitiated having grown cynical and answering only, "Let them gain the knowledge with their blood as did we!".
Much arcana remained scribed on the battle scarred walls of F'orum...but the voices of the Makers and D'evs and Alphas were heard less and less often there.
Even so, a handful of the faithful continued to seek after honest hearts and put aside pride: M'odders from the great m'ods who secretly gave help, the D'arvins and H'arpos and many others like them as well. Slowly, new blood trickled in and slowly the seeds of change were being sown.
From the Great War, one hated villain remained and it was this pox, this vile evil that continued to press away at the remaining enthusiasm of the committed heroes...the dread lord, 2gig. Some pleaded for a futuristic solution and others sought release by using occult technologies such as the enigmatic LAA--yet 2gig remained--inevitable...waiting at the end of each game to destroy final victory.
It was then that a great hero arose. One man from the days of old, a great M'odder who had grown in age and had considered himself retired. Major Stress strode forth from his Keep and scowled at the ravages of 2gig. He also saw the subtle erosion of morale amongst many of the remaining old ones and he realized the voice of the Makers was but a whisper.
So he took it into his own hands and wrought grat change.
Using his M'odding knowledge he began a work that ushered in a new age of Sins. He struck 2gig so mightily and effectively and cried so loud that p'layers and m'odders and d'evs alike all heard his shout. Even the M'akers heard him.
Strength and courage returned. M'ods began to flourish. New M'odders shared their craft publicly and brought new tools and expertise and some few P'ros began to encourage new players...even the undead have brought in strange powers that eclipse the suns.
Iron was joined with Steam and in the cataclysmic blast of their union, the unfaithful fell away and the righteous remained and Rebellion was born into a new Golden Age.
Now it is all our hands to remember the lessons of these passed times. The age of whiners is done. Now is the time to cut bait or get out of the boat as we face a mere handful of D'syncs and D'bugs. Now the Major and Zombies and M'odders of Old and the Steam clans all are working to polish and refine the last, great hope of the legend that is Sins.
