Beating the Dead Quad Conspiracy

Sins is single-threaded so having a multicore PC will not help.

devs had said repeatably that it will not happen.

I belive it would require completely rebuilding the game engine... so... expect it for SINS 2.  nothing sooner.

And, honestly. your wrong.  As galaxy sizes get bigger, the quantity of stupid dumb shit goes up.   I dont want to have upgrade the logistic slots 50 times, and build 200 trade ports.  not to mention, you have a severe fleet supply limit... which, means that due to the way stackings and repair, and everything works... if everything is maxed out, you cant realy split up your fleet into more than 2 main forces, and still be effective in battle... too many planets and not enough choke points means that the game devolves into fleets playing round robin, where both fleets never battle eachother, instead a cycle of bombing, and annoyng rebuilding.  the huge multistar is about (maybe even past) the limit of the size of the game as far as gameplay is concerned.

I do think that limiting the star's phase lanes to certain other stars, instead of every star on the map would help this problem.

AFAIK, the beta doesn't really support multi-core CPUs, but the release will do a better job of it

I don't believe there's a shortcut to check FPS

The game does make some use of a second core, but reports vary wildly on how much so.

Quoting Yarlen, reply 1
There won't be any additional support for multicore processors.  Adding that kind of support into the engine would take years and is far outside the scope of Rebellion.  Having a multicore processor should still help, however, because the OS will offload non-game tasks to the other cores.

lol yeah, when playing online yesterday, I got into a four-way battle of combined aligned fleets.  Each player had 100-150 ships plus 40-200 squads of SC (wrath built a lot of Sovas) and my quad core was handling the thing just fine.  Wrath's processor was very unhappy with us though lol.

Quad cores are nice

No it won't use 4 cores its not Crysis in space, but it IS the best space RTS/4x game money can buy.

SoaSE doesn't need 4 cores, use ur central heating system instead
End of TFL's quote

Quoting RonLugge, reply 10
I should point out that one reason to specify dual / quad core is because a 2 GHz dual core CPU will generally destroy the most common single-core CPUs (i. e. a P4).

Quoting Spartan, reply 7
It does not even come close to using two on my system at highest settings and 2550 res it only uses a little over 1.30 cores. I would love for it to use all of them. As it stands now i can spin a full battle with lots of ship so fast I cant see anything that is how fluid it is.
End of Spartan's quote

"sigh"

Quoting Yarlen, reply 5
Right now only texture loading is multi-threaded.

Everyone should downgrade their PC to play sins without lag

Everyone should not downgrade their PC and buy a processor that actually has faster cores, instead of expecting a quad core 2ghz processor to perform as well as a single 4ghz processor.  Very little current software, let alone stuff that predates the quads, will perform better in that scenario.

In the land of multi-core, 1+1+1+1!=4.

I just can't do, im sorry. Give up my high frame rates in supreme commander 2 due to multi core rendering on a laptop!, give up portals performance!, modern warfare 3 and spec ops the line!

NO way hozay!

I get desktop ambient occlusion on a laptop because of quads so sins can kiss my a** for the time being.

I understand it's a difficult concept, but you can get a quad core processor that isn't crap.

I have an i5 running at 3.3ghz, more than sufficient for Sins.  Far faster than even the hottest P4.

This! I have my 3.3ghz pushed up in speed too ... runs pretty smooth. :-)

Sometimes I feel like this when I see threads that burn the rocks under the ground where the horse was rendered down for fat after it was beaten to death

Ummm ... ? o_O

I have an i5 quad core that has 3.3ghz on each core ... SoaSE:R therefore runs at 3.3ghz on a single core and runs pretty good. I've boosted that speed up to about 3.8 on a single core and it yields slightly better results. I have my old desktop still which is a 3.2ghz PentiumD, 3.2ghz on each core. It still brute forces it's way through Sins better than any 2ghz quad-core ever will. :|

3.3ghz is overkill for any game.

Yarlen 3.3ghz is just Overkill man. Please multi-thread this engine already.

If overkill means I can run stuff flawlessly? Then I'm all for it! :D Ghz are cheap these days, might as well pony up!

On huge maps I have some lag even with my 2600K @4.3Ghz :(

Do you un-pin items from your Empire Tree? I don't have anything pinned as it is basically a second instance of the game almost. Unpin items and you can go a lot longer before the lag shows up.

Hit it up to 4.8

Mine has 0 problems then, until I get 7 full population fleets facing off against each other in the same gravity well and try to watch it.

Come to think of it, that might be my graphics card that's dying there, though I wouldn't be surprised if its everything :/
