Buff Ankylon Lasers back to their old strength and increase beam power too

The power of the Lasercannons (primary broadside weapon) got a considerable nerf back in Beta.

 

This was justified back then because the Ankylon was nearly invulnerable with Furios Defense affecting shields too.

 

So back then in addition to a nerf to furios defense its broadside laser firepower was reduced from arround 180 to around 120 per volley. 

 

That nerf was probably to hard. I propose to give it back its orginal firepower and I also propose that the beams gain not only a bit more firepower but also a slightly larger arc. If its lasers and beams could fire on the same target, it would solve many issues.

 

For the firepower increase, the special Tec Rebel beam upgrade could be moved to the Loyalists. IDK if it is possible to give a weapon a wider arc with a research, but if it is this research could be made so that only after this research the beams have a wide enough arc to fire together with the lasers.

 

Balancing justification:

 

The Ankylon inability to make more then a dent into any other Titan at a remotly similar level has the result that a smart enemy will simple rape your fleet first - something group shields does a very poor job at protecting it from, then bomb the planet and then finally killing the Ankylon.

 

No doubt, other changes are in order to make the Ankylon competivly again. None of those changes are however going to be overly useful as long as anyone can just ignore the Ankylon.

 

The funny thing is, that the Ankylon in its current form "might" be a pretty balanced titan.... but the problem is that it is very poor compared to the other titans.

 

Ragnarov Titan = Juggernaut of destruction... kills your entire fleet... with group shield or not

Coronate Titan = never ever dies..... Supression Aura makes any direct assault very hard... and impossible for the Ankylon... a level 5 Coronate will withstand a level 10 Ankylon.... forever.

Eradica Titan = Chastic Bursts..... instead of dying within 10 seconds your fleet dies within 12 seconds... thanks to group shield.

Vorastra Titan = Group shield or not.... I will just suck your fleet in. Not to mention that the Vorasta is overal more powerful then the Ankylon

Kulturask Titan = probably more powerful than the Ankylon.

I think the Maw should just be channeled..... that way you could interrupt it with Disruption Matrix. I do agree that the Ankylon needs a buff, particularly to group shield... damage would be good too. But nothing too extreme.

The Ankylon really needs something to make it necessary to be targeted first in combat: either a massive buff to Group Shield to make it so a protected fleet simply will not die (which would make the Ankylon a devastatingly powerful support unit instead of an offensive unit like all other Titans) or the boring boost to DPS to make it act like all other Titans out there.  I'd much rather see the Group Shield buff so the Ankylon isn't a cookie-cutter fleet-killer.

What about making Furious Defense restore hull to all nearby allied ships as long as the Ankylon has full hull points(and thus doesn't receive the hull restore it's self).  As per the Eradica we know abilities can be modified based on thte titan's hull %, and this would force the enemy to at least pop the Ankylon's shields and maintain some degree of hull damage(otherwise it's both group shielding it's allies and restoring their hull per second).

That would certainly create a very real incentive for the enemy to target the Ankylon- doign so at least restricts it's hull repair from fleetwide to a single target(it's self).

Perhaps not the same amount of hull/sec as the Ankylong gets it's self- perhaps half as much sounds about right.

 

 

 

 

The other idea I had for the ANkylon, not directly tied to making it itno a desirable focus target was havign DIsruption Matrix disable enemy strikecraft in the area(no damage, just a disable) for the duration in addition to it's current effects.  The TEC have always lacked a strong anti-SC CC tool(Advent have TK push, vasari have Disable Weapons & Phasic Trap), Adding such a defensive tool to the more defensive TEC faction feels about right to me- not to mention it would give the Ankylong some much needed "flare"- something it can do that no other titan can do(Anti-SC capabilities).

As long as it just disabled them and didn't destroy them that would be a great idea.  I'd still like to see some other buff to the Ankylon's fleet utility though so it isn't a useless space brick.

My thoughts exactly- The TEC have plenty of Anti-SC damage tools regardless- A disable alone would be plenty to give the Ankylon a large but reasonable buff.

I wouldn't go THAT far. But it could definitely stand to be more useful.
