GF: Possible to Mod Militia Upgrades?

Starbases, Capital Ships, and Titans

Hi, I was recently working on some maps for my multiplayer group in Galaxy Forge, and I came across a question that I cannot seem to find an answer to. I apologize if it has been answered, I searched and was unable to find a conclusive answer.

Is it possible to set the level/upgrades of "militia" titans, starbases, and capital ships? I was making a map with "relic worlds" similar to the "Secrets" map in vanilla Sins, but I decided I would add some bot armies for added difficulty, but the level 1 titan and starbase are cake to walk over. It would be great if I could set them to a higher level. If this is only possible through modding, that's fine, I have done some light modding to Sins in the past for our games, but I will need a nod in the right direction.

Thanks a lot for the help! I'm very excited about some of the fun maps I can make if this is possible.

You've got two options.  Only one works for the starbase.

The first, and simple route, is to simply duplicate and modify the starbase/titan to have a  version to go into your map that starts more powerful.

The second, useful only to the titan, is to spawn an opposing ship for it to kill worth the requisit experience.

For militia capitalships and titans, if it will take a while for the player to send a scout to them, one thing you can do is to spawn a group of pirate ships. Pirates and militia will fight each other, so the destroyed pirate ships can give them XP. Of course you'll want to make sure the militia can win easily, so it might be difficult to do this with high levels due to the amount of ships needed.

If you're willing to make a mod, you could make a dummy pirate ship that gives the desired number of XP and has only 1 hit point.

As mentioned for starbases, there is no way to get militia/pirates to upgrade them. You'll have to make a mod with a special starbase that has the desired upgrades built in.

Great! Thanks a lot guys. I was able to make Titan and Starbase duplicates, and it's worked well. I really like the idea of using pirates or a special pirate ship to give increased amounts of experience to the militia as well. I didn't think of that!

As for the upgrades, I was unable to find out how to designate a the duplicate's upgrades via the .entity file. Where should I look if, for example, I wanted to make a Transcendia Starbase with the "Meteors" ability? Would the NPC even use it? I have, in playing since Entrenchment came out, never seen an Advent starbase use meteors. If that is not possible, I could, of course, just upgrade the hull, shields, and dps of the duplicate to increase their difficulty, but that's a "cheap" workaround I would like to avoid if possible.

Thanks again for the help.

Yes. The reason you never saw it in Entrenchment was because the AI then would only get the weapons, hull and strikecraft upgrades. With Rebellion they now have a chance to get it, though it may not research the tech requirement for a while, and any starbases that get fully upgraded before that obviously won't have a chance.

I see. Is there any way to force upgrade them? Since they are simply militia, I'm not too worried about balance. How would I even go about giving upgrades via the special, duplicate starbase's .entity file?

As for Meteors, I guess I could always create a special upgrade .entity file that is a duplicate of the meteors upgrade, minus the research prerequisite. But I really hope there is another way around it!

I was talking about AI players. Militia will never buy anything. Easiest way would to be to make a duplication version of the meteor storm ability with a level source of "Fixedlevel0" instead of starbase upgrade or whatever it says. That forces it to always have the ability (you'll have to give the starbase starting antimatter and stuff as well of course).

Militia (planetary defenders) are based off of the Trinity TEC faction. Minus research, and some units. Otherwise they are identical in every way to the old Trinity TEC faction. Has anyone experimented with "completing the faction"? Like adding all of the required entitys, researches, and units? I believe it was mentioned a long time ago that if the AI militia faction had everything they needed, they would build, and expand just like the player factions do. Worth a shot to experiment IMO.
