Rebllion: Game Lag

Hello All,

My PC:

AMD 4100 FX 3.6Ghz Quad Core

AMD Radeon 6850 1GB DDR3 Graphics

6GB RAM, Windows 7.

100 GB SSD (40GB Free)

My Problem:

Running Sins seems to be very laggy on all settings. I once played a large fleet but found it was unplayable.

After this, I tried a small Fleet and found the same problem on the same map with 4 AI Players.

I eventually modified the Fleetsize to help, this is now at a max of 700 points per fleet.

Today, I tried to overclock my CPU to 4.2Ghz, which seemed for some reason to slow down my PC even more! (Any idea why?) But I also noticed that, the performance was the same as my standard 3.6Ghz unclocked.

I then thought that it must be the RAM, so I build a ENTIRE medium fleet on purpose and charged it in at 4x speed.

This only seemed to take up 1.5GB of RAM. (Is this right?).

I have now come to the conclusion that it must be my graphics card, but can that really be true given my card?

It's brand new and not a bad card atall! I've turned off all shadows, all AA, All settings to Medium and it's still laggy on normal speed with half of a small fleet.

Can somebody please help me understand and hopefully, get rid of this lag?

As a quick forum search concerning lag will reveal the problem is more or less known.

The game engine of Sins dates back to 2006 or so where multi core systems werent the norm and nobody even thought about 64 Bit.

Sins is a 32 Bit single core game and there is very little you can do to change that. Your graphic card should be absolutly capable of handling the game so I assume the lag is CPU induced.

Overclocking does help as the single core used has more calculation power.

If you experience even worse performance with overclocking than without perhaps the PCI graphic card bus is negativly affected by the overclock. After overclocking my Core2Duo with 34 % I had a slightly worse graphic performance in general.

However in your case even a lowered graphic card performance due to cpu overclocking should not cause graphic lag, the card is way to powerful for that.

What is running in the background? Defrag? Anti Virus? Any autoupdates? Sins uses only one core and anything that runs on said core will have to share the processing power with sins.
