Weird Fighter Behavior

Since Entrenchment, I've had missiles as a fighter-to-fighter weapon in a mod. Recently, I have noticed that having missiles projectiles on a fighter means that they will act as bombers, and will not target enemy fighters, this occurred due to a minor change in the ANTILIGHT attack type.

To explain, the reasoning was that, as the AttackType had a higher damage modifier versus Pirate armor than VeryLight armor (ex. 1.01 vs. 1.00), the fighter acted as if it was a bomber, and refused to attack fighters. This oddity regarding Pirate armor also applies to all other armor types, with the exception of Medium armor (ex. you can have a 1.3333 modifier versus VeryLight armor, and a 2.0 one for Medium armor, and the fighter will function normally).

Just edited the OP; found something even stranger.

... does that mean they prioritize pirates versus other players? I have seen that aspect of the behavior before ...

What really baffles me, is how IC/SD completely overlooked this. To use a vanilla Sins example, Player TEC has a fleet which only fighters, while Player Advent has both fighters and bombers. The TEC fighters will target Advent bombers before Advent fighters, while Advent fighters will automatically target the TEC fighters. Thus, unless the TEC guy is microing his fighter fleet, assuming the difference in fighter strength is not that vast (ex. 15 fighters to the Advent's 12), the Advent will likely gain air superiority due to weird priorities.

My brain hurts.

I was actually toying with fighters again this past weekend and now you make it seem futile.

:P

lavo, are you really surprised or just flabbergasted that there are such problems?

Have you tried giving something other than ogrovs ANTIMODULE weapons?  If it's the only weapon type on the object, it won't attack anything but structures (regardless of what you set the Boolean about targeting only structures to)...

Chance to hit bomber also seems to do absolutely nothing...

Sins is full of...oddities...

I'm surprised by this specific bug, not that there are bugs of this sort; after seeing how chance to hit and ANTIMODULE are, it doesn't surprise me.

Yes. I tried giving them to bombers that also had ANTIVERYLIGHT lasers, and this immobile behavior also occurred.

Iskatu has the curse of being very capable, having a clear vision of what he wants to do, and the determination to make things happen. I doubt many on the forums would be able to fully understand just how many walls he's ran into... There's a lot that can drive you crazy when it comes to Sins, sometimes minor bits can take many hours to solve, or even properly diagnose.
