Mod AI ship building

I was wondering if anyone could share some info, or point me to the right place regarding AI modding.  I love the SoGE mod, but I don't love having giant battles where the only ships that make a noticable diference are capital ships.  It's pretty easy and straightforward how to limit the player's number of Capital Ships, but the AI doesn't seem to follow the same rules.  

Example, I modified the research .entity's for the MaxCapitalShips to limit to just a total of 4 Caps (just for an experiment).  In game, I could only build 4 caps.  But, the AI still rolls in w/ a fleet of about 10.  Obviously they are following different rules.  Info here would be awesome.

No true modding the AI possible.

Correct...that's what i've read; AI was a poor choice in words.  but obviously they follow some rules that are editable, as I was able to limit the number of Caps that I built, but the AI built a lot more.  So somehow the computer players are being following a different set of rules for MaxCapitalShips.   I'm curious why that is.

Sent you a PM; SoGE put in a bunch of capital ship number increases in various AI-only research files in order to encourage the AI to get them.

In the current public build, frigates are actually extremely powerful and can be amassed in large numbers rather easily and effectively. :P They've even been nerfed in the upcoming patch due to this.
