C++ Error after playing Sins Rebellion for a few hours

After playing Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion for a few hours, I got a C++ error when playing as Vasari Loyalists on a 56 planet map with 5 AI. Unfortunately I hadn't saved for half an hour or so, so it's safe to say I was pretty angry when it happened.

Any reasons as to why this happened? I'm playing on a laptop.

It's got: Intel core i5 3210M, Geforce GT 650M, 8 GB RAM. I have Nvidia driver 306.97, since any driver newer than that and BF3 crashes.

What do you mean by C++ error?  Are we talking about an error reported by the game or something reported by the C++ redistributable?

Game errors only appear if you are playing in the dev.exe or have your settings tweaked to show errors (which would require editing the settings file manually)...they are grey pop ups that give you three options (skip, skip all, or break)...

I've uploaded an image of what the error looked like. I was playing and then my game crashed to desktop (just closed suddenly) and I was greeted with this message.

Perhaps an infinite loop occurred?  Could be an issue with the code, and I doubt we'll ever know what really caused it...

This is the first time I've ever seen that happen with Sins.

You'll just have to contact Stardock support directly to figure it out.

Well I grabbed this image off of Google Images, so evidently I'm not the first person to have experienced this error.

You're not. I've had it happen repeatably ever since I've owned Sins. It is a bit rarer than the classic minidump, but unfortunately like the minidump it is not a specific error. It could mean any number of things. All that says is that the game engine itself actually crashed, rather than the game encountering a situation it does not know how to handle and dumping itself.

The game autosaves every 15 minutes if you haven't changed that number in the settings file. If you continuously get this error at about the same point, you should definitely report your save so that the devs can fix it. Usually such crashes occur more randomly however, in which case it might be impossible to recreate the exact circumstance that caused the game to crash.

For the record, I've gotten these runtime errors before but never knew what they were...all I know is I've never gotten one to repeat upon reloading a save....

I'm also getting them now. I'm running the beta ver 1.05 I think it is. It happens a lot. Anytime I play. Sofar ever time I'm zoomed it. My drv are up to date and it didn't dump much before I dl the new beta ver.

So are you saying there is no help?

Try making sure your graphics drivers are up to date. A runtime error instead of a minidump means not only did the game crash, but the entire engine running on C++ died.    8(|

It happened to me too on occasion. But not a single time since 1.50 beta.

It may however be down to the fact, that i downclocked my GPU to factory clocks somehow around that time and now only OC it, if i am gonna use it for some CUDA computing. So the crashes were perhaps caused by OC related instability.

I've had these errors happen instead of a minidump, as they were caused by something that was moddded which made the game crash. Personally, as far as I am concerned, they are no different from a minidump other than a different crash message.

Whenever you update your graphics driver, try and do a clean install of it...Nvidia I know offers this option and IIRC so does ATI...not that it's your issue but you never know....and it's a good habit anyway...

Yeah, these are annoying for us as the crash is occurring outside of the Sins process (meaning we have no idea what's causing it).  Our best guess is that the video driver barfed or ran out of memory, but we're not sure.

Well my drivers are up to date and it happens when I try and save after about 1hr of play. My sys and vid have more than enough mem and power. The cpu is a i7 and the vid has 2 gpu's. I didn't crash like this much prior to 1.5. Now since it crashes all the time. That has to be a clue.

Please navigate to the following folder: Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\redist

Run the 'REDIST.EXE' or 'VCREDIST_x86.EXE' file within there to reinstall \ repair the redist. Once that has been done, try to play the game again.

Really? This is interesting to hear as one of the times I've gotten this error when screwing around with buff files in the dev exe (i.e. doing things that normally cause a Minidump). While I am by no means qualified, I'd venture to guess that at least some of these crashes are indeed related to Sins itself.

There's a link to the 2005 Visual C++ Redistributable...that is the one needed by Sins...

I would only install it through the provided link if none of the above solutions (or something suggested by SD support) does not help you.....

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\

Select the game in your Steam Library list, right-click and select Properties. Click the Local Files tab and then the Browse Local Files button.  Steam will open up an Explorer window to where it has the game installed.

Hello, I'm having similar issue for a while now. I have tried validating game files (steam) and reinstalling Visual C++ Redistributable from the game's folder as said above.

About 1h 15min (last auto-save) into the game, got crashed with similar error, but with options to: abort, retry(debug) or ignore. Tried all options but it would only lead to another error same as selereth provided in replay#2.

It was a LAN game with my brother and 6 other AI and he didn't get any error and could continue the game. I've experienced this type of error in single player games as well, about after 30-60min into the game.

I was experiencing this errors before the last patch as well.

System specs:

Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz

GPU: ASUS DC2T-2GD5 GeForce GTX 680

RAM: 8192MB RAM

I have 2 ssd drives one for system and the other for games. Both same model: OCZ-VERTEX4 ATA Device

I'm also using two monitors both 1920x1080.

Stable system, not really crashing on any other application, maybe Borderlands 2 rarely.

Thanks in advance,

TreaKu
