is Rebellion bugged?

out of sync

I came back to Rebellion on Steam after a year and still had it installed. I previously had the Trinity edition, but uninstalled it. A year ago when playing Rebellion I had my share of losses and wins on normal setting, but this time there seems to be a big problem in gameplay. A few times orders were executed that I never gave (they were suicidal). Each time I play (on small map) after about two hours into the game and in a strong position, the enemy invades and wipes out everything within a few seconds, even though I had a huge deployment of ships and troops, all maxed out with upgrades. It does this each time. I checked the file integrity on Steam which reported one file could not be confirmed and would be reacquired. It never did this.

This is one of my favourite games  and would be grateful if any can help. Thanks

Set the AI to unfair instead of Cruel or Vicious and enjoy a cakewalk game. I suggest reading some guides / in depth posts here on the forums if you are having trouble handling the AI. Also, playing on higher game speeds will help you improve in quick decision making during your games. Can't be of any more help I'm affraid.

Its possible that this file is not important, see this post and read Yarlen's reply #4.

I am not sure about your other problems, but if you post a replay I am sure someone might look at it.

Thanks for your replies.

i personally didn't think the unvalidated file was important and Yarlen seems to confirm it. I reinstalled the game with the file still outstanding and have begun another game on the same settings to see what the outcome might be. It may take a while before I can post a replay.

I have played Trinity with my share of wins and losses, but Rebellion is a different matter. Each time I play Rebellion 2hrs and 20 mins into the game, the enemy produces undefeatable odds against my superior troops and development and anomalies occur I cannot account for. Even with  the massive troops and ships I had, I made no significant dent in the armor of the enemy. This happens every time. Recently I have been playing TEC defensive v Advent(single player) on normal setting. 2hrs 20mins into the game the enemy invades with massive forces that were not even in the vicinity. When I directed troops to three different planets, they all went to the same planet. A suicidal strategy. When I came back to a save (I have not opted into the betas, playing the 1.1 version) the enemy had suddenly produced a strong broadcast culture and reduced two of my planets to almost zero allegiance that was not even present in the save game. When I went into the developers version and watched what was happening, it was according troops and resources way beyond the settings. Rebellion seems to be a mess. What's going on? Can someone experienced explain this.

You still haven't told us what difficulty you were playing on, but the AI does not cheat except for some extra income and (possibly) free research at higher levels. Several people who claimed otherwise were eventually proved to just be doing something wrong or didn't understand what was going on.

Thanks for your reply.

I am a seasoned player of Sins, as you may have noted from the above, and as you may also have noted I was playing on normal setting. How do you account for the anomalies I experienced, let alone the consistent impact of the enemy each time 2hrs 20m into the game when it devastates everything? Why would a save game produce a different scenario when I come to play it? I have been unable to complete any game on Rebellion since I began to play it a year ago.

My apologies, I did miss that.

The AI is just that, artificial. It may simply be that you were falling behind for a while and the AI tends to really get going at around that time (sounds about right for how long a normal AI takes to max out its fleet).

We can't tell you anything without knowing how many planets you controlled and what fleets were used, but I'm guessing either you were totally outmatched by the AI but couldn't tell, or you didn't realize how powerful some of the new units like titans are, which will require some different strategies that you used in Diplomacy (mainly, not using lots of frigates against them).

Even Sins has random effects for some abilities, and you can actually change the AI when you load a game, so perhaps that caused the AI to change what it was doing (or it changed in response to you doing something different to avoid defeat).
