[MOD] Vasari Deep Voice Mod

This mod has now moved to Mod DB: http://www.moddb.com/mods/trivial-options-mods-pak (For Rebellion 1.84 or later)

"Intensive experiments on detained human diplomats demonstrated that this species is susceptible to intimidation by voices of a frequency range that is somewhat lower than what our scientists originally thought.  As a result, our vocal generator device configuration has been re-tuned to reflect these findings.  The aforementioned specimens were disposed of after further experiments and the Xeno Affairs Office is very pleased with the productivity of the Imperial Labs."

This mod (Voice Vasari Deep) gives the Vasari deep, looming voices.  Modified from the original in-game Vasari voice audio.  If you do not like the stock Vasari voice, this might be for you.

As a bonus, extra voice mods for the other two races as well.  Since they are not as (IMO) necessary as Vasari, I will just let them tag along here. :-)
- Voice TEC Radio: Protracted war effort has resulted in a sharp decline in voice communication equipment quality!  Applied a band-passed filter to distort the voices.
- Voice Advent Mature: The Unity is fielding more experienced crews in the fleet!  Pitch lowered to make the voices sound less girlie.

Compatible with Rebellion v1.80.  (And possibly all previous versions of the game).

Just been listening to these voices and they are very good, and a lot less abrasive than the vanilla.  Thanks.

BTW: Is there any chance you could upgrade your other two mods for Rebellion 1.5?  I want them both.

I just played some random samples from each race. Pretty cool over all. Vasari definitely sound more sinister but there is enough variation in the Vasari voices that some of them didn't turn out that great with the batch filter. The crazy Vasari Rebel corvettes with his manically laugh for example.

Advent I think turned out the best. I just kind of ignored the girlieness I guess, but the Loyalist Corvette definitely need a pitch reduction, I'll at least use this one if just for that.

TEC obviously doesn't have any tone issues, but if you care to improve it maybe try layering some radio static noise on top of it. I'm not sure exactly what you did on them but it kind of sounds like just a quality reduction with a bit of noise, not static noise.

Done!

Thanks GoaFan.  For the TEC, I just applied an equalization filter that creates distortions and clippings.  It would probably take a more experienced guy to add realistic statics.

Just use the Spaceman plugin. You can find it in VST, so it should function with most editors.

Thank you.  But I have lost the Trivial Options Mod, it's disappeared.

You're welcome.  I think it is pending sd approval, and should show up in a few days.  You can try the medifire link in the meantime.

That's fine, I can wait a little longer.  Great little mods, make a big difference to my game.

The Advent sound like Hermaphroditic Cross Dressers.

I am changing all the things I don't like about Rebellion.

The music is horrible (Found a Homeworld music mod, now it's great)

The voices are horrible (Partial fix found here)

Superweapons are horrible (fix found here)

The descriptions are unnecessarily confusing and need simplifying (Fix found here)

The font is horrible. I find it uncomfortable to read (Fix found here)

The sound effects are horrible (No fix found yet)

Apart from those few thing I find the game okay.  ;)

I changed the music too, but only because after playing this game for 4 years I know it all.  ;)  Most people seem to really like the soundtrack.

There are actually a few font changing mods. I don't use them though so I can't recommend you anything.

What program do you use to batch edit the sounds?

I used Audacity, "edit chain" "apply chain".

Unfortunately I do not know how to batch add noise, and the spaceman vst did not work.

imo if it is just about comfortable reading, it is quite hard to beat the Segoe UI font.

Is there any mods beside Xiskio's, Arkymedes's and my one?  These all use the Segoe.  When I tried to substitute with other fonts, they all showed up with jagged edges.  :S

Sorry, I only meant I couldn't make it work with Audacity.  I saw a youtube vid about this VST and it is impressive indeed.

I think it was Xiskio's Segoe UI mod that I tried, but the font didn't show up in some of the menu's.  Those that it did looked really cool, and I had no trouble reading it.

BTW: I got the Segoe font through the windows live trick.

The main problem with Xiskio's mod was that it included too many changed files: those in the \Window subdirectory, plus \String\English.str.  I especially wonder why English.str was included, as this file contains all strings to be displayed in the game, and changing it wiill cause conflict with any patches or mods that has changed strings (ie. virtually all mods out there).  In fact, if you deleted "Xiskio's Font Mod 0.8beta\Window" and "Xiskio's Font Mod 0.8beta\String", the mod will suddenly works pretty well, though with some text runoffs here and there due to the larger font size.

In Trivial UseSegoeFont mod, the font size was chosen to minimize text runoffs, and minimal number of files was changed.  It should work with vast majority of the mods out there.

Yeah!!  :)

Another problem solved.  Your trivial mod pack is anything but trivial, It's a life saver.  Thank you.

Update:  Text is now great.

Finally got around to learn making videos and uploaded to YouTube for the very first time. :)

Also, updated the TEC radio voice mod to reduce the harshness.
