Linked Gravity wells

Possible?

Just curious.

Lets say I have a binary planetary system. If you put two planetary objects close to one another, they simply adjust the X/Y/Z coordinates and appear above or below one another. But how, if at all possible, would you go about actually linking the two gravity wells so that you could travel between them without a hyper jump?

I am thinking in terms of actual travel.

Earth and moon aren't that far from one another. Why hyper? Just use normal space.

Earth to Jupiter, that makes much more sense to hyper.

Jupiter and its sixteen moons? N-Space between.

Make sense?

Is this doable?

Nope. Only mods have added binary planets (I think) by creating a mesh with the two planets on them.

And as far as i know the extra planet is just a cosmetic thing. You cant make 2 colony's in the same gravity well.

From my experience with various mods, it is necessary to do a phase jump, even when the gravity wells do overlap themselves.

In case of overlapping gravity wells, it also tends to confuse the hell out of the ship movement AI, when ordered to phase jump. ;)

Not that you can blame it..... it was never designed with this in mind.
