Request:Choosing start locations in multiplayer

Hi,

I play regularly with 5 other people, the youngest 13 and the eldest in their 40's. We play in teams of 3 and because of our varying skill level someone usually gets knocked out pretty early. What we are looking for is the ability to choose our start locations so we can shelter the poorer player by flanking them with more skillful players.

Thanks

Yip, I fully agree, being able to choose starting position would be an important enhancement in mixed skill multi-player games.

Using the Galaxy Forge you can set where people spawn in a map by setting the start postions and then using the slots in the lobby as postions.

Host is always 1, then it goes 2 3 4 5 etc etc.

Still it would be nice to have such feature. Not everyone wants to deal with Galaxy Forge, additionally the possibility to choose a starting location is fairly standard in RTS games. So yeah, i fully support this request.

somewhere i read with this game engine it is not possible. like connecting starting position to your race.. But it would be good too even for singleplayer, so --->

I support this request too, even for singleplayer mode.

It would be good to decide where I want to start and where my teammates should be (even if AI's), many times bad starting positiions are the main cause of that match gone wrong (AI gets the chokepoint and cannot defend it).. And in other games it is a standard as Timmaigh said...

There are also pre made maps that have fixed starting locations. So you can still set up teams like this even if you dont want to use Galaxy Forge.

This request is already in the game. Its set by the map not by the engine. So to fix locations you need to edit the map.

I assume the reason its not standard in the game lobby is due to the nature of Random Maps. If you could set positions then it will mess up random maps.

but many players like random maps, like me, and I hate premade maps, most of them give you 2-3 planets, no chokepoints and immediate conflict... and on random maps starting positions are extremely random.

So at least the option to have all teammates next to each other would be good.

Yeah, the choice to have team players next to each other in random maps would be perfect

Then it wouldnt be random.

You either have a random map, or you dont.

Anyhow...Galaxy Forge solves all this. You can set starting postitions and create a map that is much more random than the current random maps.

I agree with Dinogeek121, I feel that players should, as with most RTS games, be able to fix their starting positions. It allows the game to become more balanced where varied skill levels are concerned.

most players dont know how to use that program, like me.. I tried but failed and gave up (yes, I wasnt even trying hard, because I did not want to spend hours figuring out what to do and how...), so an inbuilt function to decide who starts where would be good for most players I think..
