Did Ironclad do their vanity project to soon?

My question is why, Ironclad is not in the middle of developing Sins 2, instead of a free to play Sins of a DA?

The original Sins came out in 2008 and even though the game has been supported since then, they are only layers on top of an existing engine.

I am not a business man, but this seems foolish.......

They said themselves they wanted to do something besides a Sci-fi game for a while, since it sounds like even before Ironclad was founded that's all they've worked on. And I suspect the other reason is simply to stall for time, they want to wait for the technology to get to the point where they can truly make a sequel that is better than Sins in every way.

It is also a good idea for any business to have more than one product.

Generally, the interest in Fantasy seems to have strengthened in the last decade, sometimes even at the expense of science Fiction.

This trend seems to change in more recent years.

As a company.... if you only do Science Fiction books or games, such trends can put yourself into significant trouble when the majority of the market is in Fantasy "mood". And vice versa of course.

Being versatile significantly increases medium and long term success probabilities for any company.

I could also imagine, that the devs want to try out something new once in a while. I mean you are pretty trough with space ship designing and after all that work you might find designing magic creatures a welcome change.

Which I imagine will come with the next Windows OS, either by actual products or by terrible 32-bit sales. As it is, there are already 64-bit only games in development and iirc released.

There are at least 2 reasons why 32 bit lives/lived that long:

  • Many applications - especially business ones - took a long time to be 64 bit compatible
  • For the average non gaming end user... advantages of 64 Bit are negligible --> see boom of mobile devices/good enough computing
