Modding the tech Tree

Ok, so I have a question which I still can not find an answer to.

I want the ability to research both the titans for the TEC.

I've already modified the files so they both show up on the titan build menu.  Modified the file that both titan factories can be shown.

But I don't know how to add both to the Research tree.

Any thoughts?

This is mainly for my son and I.

We made some other changes as well, like the cost of capital ships is reduced, the number of capital ships has been increased, the number of starbases certain planets can have has been increased.  Just want to see if we can have both the titans.

Strictly for home use right now.

Thanks

John

You need to modify the player file and add both titans to the titan section. The titan factories do not matter, the same factory can build both titans.

OK I modified the player file and added both titans.  But only the loyalist titan shows up in the research tree.

This is what I did to the Player file:

titanInfo
           Page:0

                      count 2
                      entityDefName "TITAN_TECHLOYALIST"
                      entityDefName "TITAN_TECHREBEL"

Thanks

Where it says researchinfo

I added the following as well:

  entityDefName "RESEARCHSUBJECT_TITANACCESS_TECHREBEL_1"
  entityDefName "RESEARCHSUBJECT_TITANACCESS_TECHREBEL_2"
  entityDefName "RESEARCHSUBJECT_TITANACCESS_TECHREBEL_3"
  entityDefName "RESEARCHSUBJECT_TITANACCESS_TECHREBEL_4"

Changed the count from 156 to 160

The Rebel and Loyalist titan research probably occupies the same space in the research tree, hence only one can be shown. You'd either need to find room to move the locations of the research, or you could just edit one of the titan's research requirement so that it is the same as the other. That way you don't need to modify the research directly and the same 4 techs unlock both titans.

How would you even make room on the research tree?

You'd have to edit whatever research files are in the way and move them somewhere else, then edit the titan research entities and move them to the newly opened space.

I edited the rebel titan files and changed their location on the research tree. They fall on the same line as they do now only shifted over 5 spaces.  So now you can research the loyalist titan first then the rebel titan.

Also you need both titan foundries. Otherwise you can't build them both.

Now I am working on the amount of titans you can have.  Just upping the value to two.

Thanks for the help.

I think you are somewhat confused. You cannot easily change the amount of titans you can build. You will get to choose which titan you want, but you cannot have more than 1 titan at the same time unless you spawn it via an ability (which is an entirely different ballgame).

I don't see why not.

We increased the amount of capital ships you can have from 16 to 38.

Lowered their cost from 50 slots to 5 and build time to 35.

What am I missing?

There is no line you can change to increase the amount of titans. Have you not tried to build more than 1 titan before? Even if you have enough fleet supply and capitalship crews it will tell you that you can only have 1 titan at a time.

So I modified the research window to allow for the research of both titans.  Instead of both being on the same line now one is over the other.

It allows me to research both titans.  I can build both titans foundries.  I however can only build the loyalist titan.  It says I need to be a member of the rebel faction to build their titan.

I am good with the either or option.  Either you have the loyalist titan or the rebels titan.  But I am trying to see where it says in the build event the faction.

I haven't gone through all the files yet but I thought one would have the option for the max number of titans you can have,  Your probably right though.

Any thoughts on the faction issue?

Oh right, the Rebel titan is the only one that is faction locked for some reason. Go to the research requirement on the Rebel titan and blank out the "FactionID" line or something like.

Sadly I can assure you there is not. I have found only three ways to get more than 1 titan.

1. Cheat in the developer.exe by spawning them in.

2. Make a special map in Galaxy Forge where you start out with multiple titans (the extras cannot be rebuilt).

3. By making special abilities to spawn them in. A few mods have taken this approach, and it can work good enough, but it's much more complicated than tweaking existing files I'm afraid.

Thanks,  I did what you said and sure enough it works.  Thanks for all the help.  Once we finish messing around I may just upload the mod.

We did make a small modification to some planets so they can hold more then 1 starbase, which would be interesting when it comes to the battle

Right now we are just messing with the TEC loyalist, the goal is to balance all the races as I like to play TEC loyalist and my son likes them all.

I did create a map in galaxy forge and I did add the titans in there but I can never get them to show up.  Does the planet they hover around need to belong to a race/faction?

Thanks again.

No. When you spawn the group though, make sure you use the Parameters "Always" and set the owner to the particular player you want to control them (say "Player-0"). Also, if you want to always start in the same position, you need to find the "RandomizePositions" option from the main info panel (where you select planet types, etc) and set it to "FALSE".

Do you know a way to create a new research item?

I want to be able to research the pirate medium frigate.  I added the infocard to the defense tree, added the infocard to the frigate build window.  They both show up.  But what I ended up doing was using the mercenary research subject.  When I change the name to something like research_Frigate_Medium the game has a mini dump, but when I change the name back and it works fine.

I did add the research subject to the list of research for the race and recounted how much was being researched.

 Any thoughts?

You need to make a new research and add it to the player entity and the entity manifest. Updating all the associated counts along the way.

Where is the entity manifest and how do I add it there?

Nevermind I found it.   Thanks
