WTF is happening at Fukushima?

WTF is happening at Fukushima?

Seriously, does anyone have a clue? The media over here were not reporting about it recently, or maybe i was just not paying attention, its almost 2 years since the quake after all....anyway i was under impression it is sort of a "solved" issue, i mean all the dangerous stuff removed, etc... until i read recently quite an alarming article, how in fact it is not? And a massive catastrophe can still happen there, many times more serious than Chernobyl, with actual global consequences?

If you have any insight into it, please enlighten me.

End of Jafo's quote

Google Translate says:

When is the Nunstrück git and Slotermeyer? Yes! ... Or Beiherhund the gersput the Flipperwaldt.

Babelfish says:

When is the Nunstrück git and Slotermeyer? Yes! ... Or at Hamilton dog the the Flipperwaldt gersput.

It's all Martian to me... though "gersput" sounds like it could be a bodily function that requires a handkerchief and a 'bless you' afterwards

Yes and to make things even more obvious: That parrot is a dead parrot. It's deceased. It's pushing up daisies. It's a LATE parrot.

Does a parrot really die if no one ever knew it existed?

Probably not!

And how would we know it died of radiation poisoning if nobody's around to run a geiger counter over it.

More to the point, does it then pose a radioactive threat to human life? :-"

Here's one that's been a bit of a puzze to me of late.  The sea water off Fukushima.... is it more radioactive at high tide or low tide?

I woulda thought at high tide cos more water's touching radioactive land.

I do believe radioactive water is less dense...it probably has more phlogiston too....

So, if I were to drink a little... I'd become less um... well, a little bit brighter?

I dunno about the phlogiston, tho.... my sinus trouble is bad enough as it is.  :-"

It probably didn't. It was probably a very old parrot and it died from a heart attack from all the stress during the evacuation.

Yes, you'll become a shining example of what man can become if they drink enough of that stuff.

Yes a lot more. You've to be careful, just touching it can burn you.

I don’t pay much attention to conspiracy theories anymore (learned my lesson), so I’m not sure what is being said now. But I did look into some of the reports concerning the USS Ronald Reagan CVN 76 and its encounter with Fukushima. I worked in the nuclear field for over 25 years so I have some expertise myself. The stories I was hearing were bat shit crazy and were well beyond any worst case scenario I could even imagine. Anyway, the following clip addresses that issue and makes obvious the gross ignorance people can develop whenever they think there is money to be made from someone else’s disaster. At this point in our history, nuclear power is the only way to go, IMO.

I have no nuclear expertise whatsoever, yet I knew some of the things presented in that clip... like washing with soap and water if exposed briefly to radiation... that if you get uncontrollable diarhorrea after being exposed you're most probably 'terminal'.

So yeah, the media and so many so-called experts spread much misinformation, downright bullshit and FUD.

However, I do love a good conspiracy theory.

thank goodness they still have time for whale hunting....

Yes, that IS fortunate.

Quite noble of them...not wanting the whales to suffer from their radiation cock-up...good thing they have plenty of harpoons.

then of course there's the yearly ritual of round up, kill, eat or aquariumize the dolphins...  250 this year.. doing well... saving them from the oceans they're poisoning.... such considerate folk...

I'm more worried why the US government has been stockpiling light arms ammunition...

I've read that it was a scare article from a site, with the intent to boost sales of their own iodine. It was 14 million doses, or 700 thousand boxes for as many people (20 doses each) so it wasn't a major purchase. For the whole us (about 300 million people) you'd need 6 billion doses.
