I Have Done Away With Phase Lanes

Its never made sense to me to limit which planets ships can jump to from any given planet. Its open space right? You should be able to punch it to warp and head to any destination in the galaxy. I've always wanted to do away with phase lanes completely and now I have achieved that goal. Well technically I made over 6 thousand phase lanes but it has the same effect. Check it out!

here are the phase lanes spewing out of my home system in game.

Whoops, according to my calculations my original programming missed about 3 thousand connections, you can actually see some of the missing areas in the second screenshot (Abkhazia is missing a lot of connections). Updated it now though and have accounted for every single connection on the map.

You could always make a mod which does this by creating phase nodes everywhere. This way you wouldn't have to do this much work in making a map; this has already been done in a few mods, so you can build off of them.

what has already been done? using the phase nodes or my method with the thousands of phase lanes?  and even using the phase nodes would seem to have problems as they could be destroyed in combat.

You can make the phase nodes invincible.

wont AI's get stuck trying to destroy them or do they just ignore them because they are invincible? also, placing phase nodes on every planet on the map prlly takes about the same time as my method (python program) and it fits into the situation more plausibly, how could you explain away a phase node sitting in orbit of every planet in the galaxy? some other race was there way before the TEC, Advent and Vasari and installed all these phase nodes before you got there? NO! I WANT TO BE THE PROGENITOR RACE FOR ONCE!

They're not talking about the phase node structure (at least I don't think Lavo is). You can just place phase nodes on the planet as a buff like the Marauder's level 6 ability does and simply never have them expire.

you sure about that? I saw some of his other posts on the forum about this sort of idea and it sounded like placing the actual structures. how are you suggesting to do it precisely? (im a programmer and modder so you dont need to dumb it down for me)

It's already been done by other mods. I thought the most elegant solution I've seen was placing an ability on scouts which allows them to place a permanent phase node buffs on every planet while they are exploring. Basically once explored, you could go to any planet from any planet. For non-random maps you could also place some sort of marker unit that spawns at all planets, places the phase node buff, and then self destructs before the players even realize it is there.

yea i suppose there's alot of ways to get er done. now im just wondering how it plays? obviously choke points are gone and considering the use of the Z axis im guessing each individual planet will need lots of hanger bays

My scout ships took one look at that map, and their crews resigned.

Very impressive though, I'd be interested in trying a game on a smaller version of that map to see how combat would pan out.

Lol. Yea i've been playing with it a bit. Its interesting. In order to survive, pretty much every planet has to be self sufficient in defense or have a fleet within reasonable jump distance. Also capital planets are much easier to raid. Everything feels more fluid.
