Problem with selection of units

Hello everyone I'm a really recent player of SoaSE Rebellion and I have a question which will probably sound a bit stupid to most experienced players: when I draw a box with my mouse to select multiple units of different types (eg. a capital ship and a few frigates), I only select units of the same type (only the capital ship or only the frigates, not both of them). I launched a new game to see if it was normal but I didn't meet this problem, so it means that I did something wrong during my game, but I sincerely don't know what. Do you have any solution? Thank you in advance.

Did you perhaps Tab out of the game before selecting a unit? Normally after I Alt+Tab out of the game, when I tab back into the game, the game thinks my Alt key is continuously pressed. The solution for me is pressing the key once, and the game works fine again.

The reason I'm asking this is because holding Alt and clicking on a unit will select all units of that selected unit type (e.g. all Garda Flak Frigates).

If that does not seem to be the problem, I wouldn't really know what's wrong. Might be some checkbox in your options that shouldn't be checked.

Thank you for your help, but unfortunately, it didn't solve my problem. I also tried to see if game options could help but it didn't change anything.

Wait I thought your post said you solved the problem by yourself, and that it was a one-time thing? Im confused...

I meant that it didn't happen when I started a new game. But I still want to know what's wrong, first because I'd like to finish properly my first game and secondly I want to know what to do if it happens again.

You mean it still happens when you load your save game, but it doesn't happen if you exit and start a new game?  o_O

Okay, so I tested again with a new game, and I meet the same problem: it's impossible, for example, to select cobalt light frigates and protev colony frigates in the same time. Is it normal or not?

I know if you select "all" units from the empire tree you won't get non combat units like the Protev. I can't recall if this behaviour extends to drag and select or if it is simply a feature of the empire tree.

You cannot select combat ships, civilian ships or strike craft at the same time. You need to select the protev after you select combat units, hold down shift and select the protev if you want it to have it in selection with your cobalts.

This feature prevents you from accidentally sending starbase constructors and colony frigates into battle when you select numerous ships at once (if you have ogrovs or starfish you may see something similar if you forget having them, they go where you ordered the attack but won't shoot because they can't, colony frigates can shoot but they are primary targets for the AI and humans as well so having them near enemy units is.. undesireable, and are weak as hell).

I think you are talking about this thing. If yes, then it is normal, and not a game breaking thing as you may not want to fight with Protevs anyway lol.

WOEaintME and Turchany are right, the problem just come from the fact that these are two different types of ships. Protev frigates have a really small attack power, but it exists, so it didn't come to my mind that they were a different non-combat ships. It's not an excuse to say stupid things but I bought the game only a few days ago so I'm still learning how to play with it. Thank you all for your help. :)

Ah yes. Colony frigates, starbase constructors and envoy cruisers are considered non-combat ships and will not receive general fleet orders. You have to select them separately, or if you hit the little bar on the left of a planet with all your ships displayed on the side it alternates between selecting all combat units, strikecraft and non-Combat ships.

Yes it is worth mentioning that strikecraft (fighters and bombers) will not be selected if you drag and select combat ships (or if you drag and select non-combat ships).
