Change Player Index To Neutral?

I know this buff type is for the Random Events, but has anyone ever successfully used it outside of that?  So far all it does is dump the game if you try it with any "Apply Buff to Target..." or "Apply Buff To Self"

I assumed, from looking at the random event file, that it temporarily changes your player index to neutral, while it spawns ships at a random planet.  So when those ships spawn they are neutral instead of on your team. Then once the spawning is done, the buff ends and your player index is back to normal.... Either that or I have no idea how it works haha.

I haven't been able to use it at all. Game crashes on me if I try to use it to make player ships neutral.

Yeah that's what happens to me as well... Pity, when I saw that buff type I saw a bunch of awesome ability possibilities open up... Only to have it shot down in my face in the form of minidumps... lol

It really is a shame the way they coded this game.  There are so many possibilities that are locked out to us because they decided that they were going to hard-code buffs used in research as only being for research, etc.  It's really baffling to have one file have to use "WeaponDamageAdjustment" while another uses "DamageAsDamageDealer" just to have the same affect... not to mention all the things we can't use elsewhere.

I would like to add to this that the buff in question works on constructor frigates..... But nothing else!
