Unexpected Singleplayer "Military Defeat"

I was in the middle of a battle (my full fleet vs titan) when I got a "Military Defeat" dialog.

I have all techs researched, an endgame-size fleet (54 empty slots), twice as many planets as the next player, and an untouched homeworld.

  • Singleplayer
  • All victory conditions disabled
  • 4-player FFA
  • Rebellion v1.82 + Forbidden Worlds + Stellar Phenomena
  • Unmodded

What just happened? Why did I lose?

Sounds bizarre. That should only happen if you ran out of planets.

If you have a save game made not much time before that happened, try loading it and see if the unexplained defeat is reproducible. If it is repro, consider uploading the save game with a bug report.

That's what I thought, but that definitely didn't happen.
