3D Printing?

has anyone found a 3D print of any vasari capital ships or (hopefully) the titan loyalist?

I really like the vasari capital ships and im quite fond of the loyalist titan and I have been searching for a 3D printout of their ships but I havnt found one yet so I am just throwing it out their hoping for a link that leads to one

I have no idea what you need to do to get something to work in a 3D printer, but the 3D models the game uses are available without too much trouble.

They are, I'm sure it wouldn't take too much effort to get the models ready to be printed.

cura software(for printing 3d models) can read the obj file types, but I have not tried to load a sins obj  into it yet

Though it would be a royal b**** (especially for the vasari models  [e digicons]x_x[/e] ), it is possible to make ship models in a program such as Autodesk Inventor and 3D-print them that way.

 

(Note: Am not endorsing Inventor, just am most familiar with it as the high-school engineering class I was in used it)

if the mesh files could be imported into a cad or modeling program that can output STL or AMF files then the stl/amf files CAN be printed with the slicing/printing programs that are already in use.

btw I do have one (at present(still waiting for the other two kickstarters)) 3d printer working

THANKS ALOT GUYS this info helped me A LOT with my project (vasari ships y must you be so detailed )

unfortunately i was not able to do the vasari loyalist titan (which sucked as I really liked that titan) *DUE to the fact* that the mesh file needed a lot of patching to be done and unfortunately the 3d printer SUCKED when you wanted something small but incredibly complicated due to the details to be printed  [e digicons]out:[/e]  is so sad...

did you look at the liquid resin printers or only the FFF/FDM printers?

from what I have read, the laser based liquid resin printers can get detailed TINY prints(1-2mm across), some examples from the peachy printer (that is still being developed)http://www.peachyprinter.com/#!gallery/c1q6m

I printed my favourite Titan. It took about 17 hours for 0.2mm layer height and 10% infill. I think it looks good for a first try. Now I would like to try some finishing technics, like sand blasting and then paint with a detail modeling brush.
