Occupation Victory

A friend and I were considering trying out the occupational victory mode. Last time I tried it the AI really had trouble with that victory mode. I'm curious, has this victory mode improved? I'm sure I can test it myself but sometimes that can take hours just to find out that it doesn't work well.

I've never seen the AI attempt an occupation victory.

That said, this does make it useful for large games in single where you're likely to get a huge lead eventually and just want to win the game, as you can get the occupation victory and beat everyone once you get board.
