System Requirements? A bit low perhaps?

but from my experience so far in Insane maps on my system with: i7 2600k, 16GB RAM
game runs.. well much less than ideal, it's slowwww especially when it loads the map or in later stages and I play only with 4-5 other races plus minor ones.

And several times I got a notification for low resources and I had to quit the game so I turned the virtual memory on my SSD.
I never had to do this before GC3 is the only program asked me for more while it doesn't use more than 6GB.

and despite the added virtual memory the game is still slow and sometimes I have to reboot then it works a little better but not fast enough.

so the recommended system requirement perhaps should be higher?

Faster CPU and more RAM?

They will be doing more optimizing over the next month or so...  I agree running insane maps right now w/ 30+ players and minors is slow however averaging about 20-30 seconds per turn.  My main hang up right now is how choppy the game gets as you cross the 100 turn mark or start meeting other races...  My system is no slouch either running the stats below...

16GB Memory

AMD 8 core FX 9370 4.4 Ghz

R9 270x 2GB Radeon GPU

However I'm sure they will get to the bottom of it as they can...

I have some serious doubts about whether they are going to get everything down to the minimum/recommended memory specifications they have specified. The whole scope of what they are putting into the game is HUGE. I can see the 4GB minimum working (when they get it all worked out) for the smallest galaxy size, lowest graphics settings (resolution and options), lowest number of opponents, etc., but when you get all of the extra custom races you can add on an "insane" galaxy with all of the opponents you can add at the highest display resolution, graphics options, and the most intense galaxy options, I think it might even test my 16GB RAM and virtual memory settings of 16GB/48GB.

I think they need to specify by map size.

 

Brad did say that anything over large is probably not workable for anyone with less than 8g or so of ram.

 

I think they need to have a "system test" feature that can scan the user's computer and warm grey out maps that are too big for the system to handle.

yeah, this might piss people off.  but for testing purposes I am usually playing on large maps rather than insane and bigger, just because I find it more stable... and I HAVE 16g of ram.

 

A lot of people are trying to play Insane maps on systems with 4g of ram and then they wonder why it locks up...
