If the uninstall can't find the log file, then all I do is remove the prog by hand and install a newer version, it works for me

I believe the correct uninstall method (if the normal route fails) is to copy the log and the uninstaller (probably called unwise.exe) to the root (C:\) and run unwise from there. For some reason Wise seems to have issues with long filenames or something. Not sure what it is exactly.

What I mean't was remove all trace of the program through Explorer and reboot, then install the version you want, that is Not Using Any Uninstall Program, hope this clears it up

Hoppity,

if I'm not wrong you mean I shall delete the windowsblinds folder in C:\programs/objectdesktop/windows blinds. This would also cause the loose of all my windowsblinds skins ?

Move the skins to another place on your drive. Delete the windowblinds folder, reboot, reinstall then move the skins back into the new folder.

I've done this once or twice with some success.

badblueboy: OK, precisely:

Open the Windowblinds folder (probably C:\Program files\Stardock\Windowblinds) and look for install.log.
Copy that to c:\
Copy the unwise.exe file to the same location from the same directory.

Run unwise.exe from c:\

In theory it should read the install.log in there and uninstall Windowblinds. In reality I'm not sure if it'll work but I have read of other people who had the same problem and did this to fix it.

there is a Utility to remove any residuals from a Windowblinds installation on the Stardock website for download.

Badblueboy, chill out. Sometimes people have difficulties with the uninstall because the log either doesn't get written or gets removed. We've never been able to reproduce it.

Follow the instructions in message #7 and you should be all set. Alternatively, just remove the files in the WindowBlinds dir itself (not any of the subfolders with skins) and reinstall.

Nakor,

thanks for advise. It's easier to tell than to do. I have apready tried yesterday but ther are files you are not able to delete. If I try to delete the whole folder in my directory C:\Programs/windowsBlinds it does not accept.Such and such files kann't be deleted..............
How to proceed with files I'm not able to delete?

You need to DISABLE Windowblinds and re-boot. It is never a good idea to try to update or uninstall a program that is running.

jebland,

I did almost everything. I unloaded (disabled) WB4. No chance. I reinstalled WB3.4 disabled it and installed WB4. No chance.
I tried to delete the folder WB in the C:\Programs\WindowsBlinds. I got the message: fastload.dll can't be deleted. So I dont't know what to do!? My PC is now running with WB3.4. It seems that WB4 can't be installed at all.
I wonder if I order the full version of WB4 and install it??!!
Or you see any miracle that can happen?

I don't know if this will help. You are unable to delete fastload.dll because it is still being used by your PC -this particular dll file is included in the registry- so windows will not allow you to delete it. I have experienced this error only when I forget to unload windowblinds and install an update. You have to make sure that none of windowblinds components are loaded when you startup windows. I wouldn't advise you to meddle with the registry as the consequences could be disastrous. If possible, can you reinstall WB 3.5 and attempt to uninstall again but rememembering to unload. A good way to do this is to allow WB icon in your taskbar -you may need to restart. Once the icon appears just unload and attempt to uninstall again via the control panel. The problem you are now experiencing is that the registry is looking for files that may have been deleted. This is the safest way that I can think of, but I'm sure someone else may provide you with a better solution.

MICKBONI,

THANKS FOR ADVISE BUT IT DOESN'T HELP TOO. I THINK EVERYTHING IS USELESS AND I GIVE UP.
I THINK I SHOULD NOT RENEW MY OBJECT DESKTOP BECAUSE THEY SELL USELESS PROGRAMS YOU'R NOT ABLE TO UNINSTALL.

I know you're frustrated, but jeez dude, chill a little............
Have you written stardock support? They will help you.........

Koasati,

yes I did. If this is Stardock? Their support otherwise never answers. Their probable answer under Point 13 which dioesn't work too.

badblueboy:

1. Disable Windowblinds
2. Reboot
3. If the fastload.dll file is still locked, just delete everything else.
4. Install registered WB4 to a new folder.
5. When it's using that fastload instead of the other delete the old one.
6. Try killing explorer in the taskmanager and going through cmd and deleteing through that.

I'm really grateful to everybody who is trying to contribute to the solution of this problem.
In few words: I just want to uninstall one simple program and which is not possible regularly. I don't want to intefere into my PC into regeistry or what ever to face bigger problems later.

One final question: Is anybody capable to tell my in few simple words how to click away WB 3.5 and install WB4??????

If not I think that the best way is to delete the whole ObjectDesktop to avoid such problems in the future.
And another kind request to those guys who write such programs:
Please make them just simply uninstalable!!!!!
I remeber that 35 years ago the man kind flu to the moon. But it seems that 35 years later we are not able to uninstall one damn program. Hope my sincere words didn't heart anybody and which is not my intention but I just wanted to tell it honestly.

People have told you.

"And another kind request to those guys who write such programs:

They do make them uninstallable. It would seem that something on your PC deleted the log file. Possibly an overzealous cleanup program that deletes all backup and what it considers temporary files. A log file may be considered temporary to such a program.

Without the log of where things installed to removing them automatically is kinda hard.
Follow my advice above and you should be able to install WB4 without problems.

I've already mentioned that this doesn't work.
With my PC everything is O.K. None overzealous program has cleaned up something. Not to my knowledge.
