The AI seems to always keep a force in its base for defense. In most games I played, the Nexus was literally inundated by turrets. The forces would jump out and engage artillery forces that were sniping their defenses.

I can comment on your second observation.

The AI does not build "forward" bases, despite the tutorial teaching "you" to do so, heheh. All of their units form armies from factories/assemblies around the Nexus and fan out from there. As soon as the last element of the army rolls..er hovers off the assembly, the army will head out. In fact, that army won't move out until it is finished, even when under attack - lol.

I can't say I've ever seen it "stop" like you are describing though. Curious indeed.

I have a Youtube Video coming out soon where my AI ally does this, so hopefully I can show what I am seeing.

I also recall seeing stuff where AI's occasionally get stuck or something and really slow down their attacks and unit production. Often only sending out an air attack ever few finites and just sitting on their hands.

It's great as a comp stomper as it gives me breathing room, but it's still weirdly passive of the AI.

I'll tell you what however, we need the ability to gift territories back to the AI. So after I save my AI ally I can return the nodes the enemy stole and I liberated during the rescue attempt. I only take my allies territory when it puts me at risk from an unprotected flank and the AI has proven to be incapable of protecting it.

What a great sport you are . I can add that the AI isn't at all quick to replace "ladder" structures it loses. For example, if PHC loses all factories it can no longer build certain units/structures until at least 1 replacement is built. Sometimes it is never replaced at all...

Heh, I find that the AI sometimes won't even replace lost engineers! Let alone units.

So about 1 hour 4 minutes in the red AI gets it's ass handed to it by the substrate juggernaught in an attack that lasts until 1 hour 14 minutes. After that the red AI never rebuilds or seems to do anything at all. It ends up being finally murdered at 1 hour 46 minutes and it just really feels like at some point it hit a wall and didn't want to respond.

Yeah, sometimes they have sat a very considerable force with several dreadnoughts near their HQ area and if they had pushed it forward earlier they could have stopped an attack and loss of several node points.

I've also seen the AI give up too.

For what it's worth, it doesn't matter if you own it: Allied territories are counted as your own in terms of keeping the supply chains going. So if I had a bunch of territories after my ally's node, they still count as connected to my own base.

I routinely steal my allies node (I'm sure they're not, but sometimes it feels like they're waiting for me to save them in 4v2 comp-stomps), but he eventually moves up and grabs the territory further up and defends that, so it's all fine.

Well it's less about the supply chain and more about giving the bot it's resources back. Assuming it actually wants to take them.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I really think you get the base value for connected resource nodes. The amount from structures appears to go to the actual owner. On the same note, I imagine the orbital boosts probably still stack for allies.

My AI teammates LOVE to quanta units on MY rad nodes if I don't capture immediately. And if there is only a unit or 2 left, they can beat you to it as well.

Yeah, fair enough, that part would be nice. I don't trust the AI sometimes though, so I'm happy to manage his defenses for him - for a fee.

Haven't noticed that (Typically in situations where my supply chain is relying on an allied node, I'm deep in to enemy territory, and don't bother building on top of them that far up). Given that the allies territory is only a "link" to your own stuff though, I would assume anything you build on your stuff still goes back to yourself, regardless of whether or not one of your links is owned by a teammate.

Oh my gosh, yes they do, and it's annoying as hell. I've had numerous advances where I've had to halt completely, because my token "cleanup crew" behind them wouldn't have enough numbers to outrun the AI teammate trying to steal my hardwork.
