X Box vs PS2 vs GameCube vs PC

I figured to start another "vs" thread because the last one was fun!

So...

1) What is your favorite system, no matter how old?
2) What is your favorite game?
3) What would you like to own as a dream game system?

I don't play many pc games. Xbox would be my favorite.

You got the comfort of your couch/chair, can play on your HD tv, can play on your $10,000+ HT setup, up to 4 player co-op on one tv and I just prefer a paddle over a keyboard and mouse.

Consoles get outdated quick but the Xbox can most definitely still perform. Have you seen the E3 Halo 2 and Fable videos? Of course Half Life 2 was just jaw dropping but neither of these are finished and Half Life 2 and Doom 3 are coming out for the Xbox.

My favorite game would probably be Halo for the Xbox; arguably the best FPS ever created (mostly compared to Half Life mind you). There was a whole lot left out of Halo because it was rushed by Microsoft for the launch of the Xbox. No doubt Halo 2 and Half Life 2 will set new standards (again) and raise the bar a few more notches. God that anti-gravity gun in Half Life 2 has to be the best thing ever. Still trying to get the 600 meg Half Life 2 video from E3 (got the 200 meg one).

1. My favorite system of all time is SNES. My favorite in the current competition is Gamecube. Before you call me a Nintendo Fanboy, I will let you know that I own all three of the current systems plus I have NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Dreamcast.

2. I don't really have a favorite game. I like all kinds of games. Mostly I like Mario-like games, Zelda-like games, first-person shooters, and survival horror games (ex. Resident Evil). Recently I have been playing The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

3. I don't really have a dream game system in mind. I feel that each new game system should not have backwards compatibility with older systems. Backwards compatibility on PS2 caused some technological shortcomings. Also when it comes to game consoles, I do not like the idea of have games released quicker with patches made available later. I feel this could lead to buggier games. Please let's not have the same problems on the game console that we have with the PC.

I'd have to echo tech cat's choice. SNES for me, simply becuase of Street Fighter 2. Yummy!
Fav game is Gran Turismo 3.
Dream game system would have to be a Neo-Geo simply because as a 14-year old I had always wanted one becuase they were the greatest thing since sliced bread, and now I'm grown up I could have been able to buy one if they still sold the buggers.
Sadly I, instead, settled for an Atari jaguar. I later lived to regret such a crap purchase......

at one time I collected video game systems. I had 15 different systems. over 500 games.

then I slowly got rid of most of them. (raising a Family was more important.)

However My favorite of all time and one of the machines I still own, is the Vectrex

Why? The only system to come with its own monitor and an arcade joy stick.

a revolution at the time.

Decided to edit this and add a list of those machines I owned or still own.

Atari 2600
Vectrex
Coleco
Intellivision
Magnavox Odysey2
NES
Mastersystem
Genesis
SNES
Jaguar
Lynx
Portable Turbo grafx
Gameboy (original)
Gameboy (colour)
Turbo Grafx 16
TurboDUO
N64
PlayStation

At one time I had 15 of these.

As I am reading this, I am listening to my husband and daughter playing Zelda...  We bought N64 when Zelda came out for it, then GameCube for Wind Waker.

Of course, since I work for Stardock, I have to say: "PC GAMES ROCK!  GALACTIC CIVILIZATIONS IS THE BEST GAME EVER!!!!"  (there, I'm done with my shameless plug.....)

If you buy GameCube just for Wind Waker, it's worth every penny! I want XBox for the XBox Live but it's a waste of a system, name one good game besides Halo and Splinter Cell? PS2 is the only other viable option to GameCube, but I prefered Nintendo's style, Quality over Quantity in that case. So, I ended up with GC.

Hus, you hit the nail on the head. Nintendo has a long history of quality hardware and software. Gamecube is the best system out of the three in terms of both hardware and software. I have all three so I know the pros and cons of each first hand.

By Hus: name one good game besides Halo and Splinter Cell

Halo and Splinter Cell the only good games?

Upcoming games:

Fable, Brute Force, BC, Halo 2, Doom 3, Half Life 2, Mafia, Project Gotham Racing 2, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3, Morrowind Gold (expansion packs included), Moto GP 2, Ninja Gaiden, Turok: Evolution, Pirates of the Caribbean, KOTOR, Midtown madness 3, Counterstrike and Conflict: Desert Storm 2.

You can't tell me that isn't a killer lineup.

Current games:

Project Gotham Racing, Apex, Mechassault, Rallisport Challenge, Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War, DOA 3, Ghost Recon, Enclave, Moto GP, Blood Wake, Morrowind, Gunvalkyrie, and Sega GT 2002.

Many of which are exclusive. I know I'm forgettin a whole lot (both upcoming and current) but that's off the top of my head.

The Xbox HAS done a pretty damn good job IMO for a 1st generation system. Wait till Xbox 2.

Tech Cat, well that's pretty much personal opinion.

Ps2 has had a nice head start on the Xbox and both the Gamecube and Ps2 have had consoles out for some time and have been workin with developers. Compare exclusive titles both now and in the future and the Xbox IMO comes out on top. Like I said, wait till Xbox 2 (Not sure if Nintendo, which is in third of sales between the three, is coming out with another system).

Not to shabby for a first generation system beatin out Nintendo.

The DJ: Not to shabby for a first generation system beatin out Nintendo.

The DJ, I know XBox may be winning in USA, but these are global companies. Did you ever see the sales in Japan? I'm from New York so it doesn't really affect me but, XBox did less than 200,000 while GC did close to 1,000,000. So you can't really consider them beating out Nintendo. XBox Live is going to be the only thing to possibly make it #1. It's where Microsoft truely has the advantage. I bet they already know that though...

Ulyimate Game - Unreal Tournament 2K3. What can I say? It's just that nothing (besides maybe Halo or Halo 2) acn stand up to it. Best game I've ever played.

I want a regular PSOne cuase my favorite game of all time is Final Fantasy 7 and 8. I want a PS2 because it plays DVD without a expensive add on like the XBox and of course, Final Fantasy 10.

Kona, they don't charge anymore for the remote.

Rather pay for the remote (which they don't charge for anymore) than what it costs to be able to play the PS2 online. Close to 200 beans? How many other addons are there? And the Xbox has a port right on the back. Xbox has a hardrive for games and music. Add up the prices for memory cards. Plus, on select games you can listen to your music during the game.

I own many consoles including a Ps2 so it's not like I'm all for the Xbox.

Hus, true, they're not doing so well at all in the Japanese market. However, they did very well with the Korean.

I'm for the Xbox, because it has the best Sega games on it. As for my favorite system of all time, I'd have to say it's a tie between the Sega Saturn, the Sega CD, and the Sega Dreamcast. My favorite game would have to be Dark Wizard for the Sega CD. As for what I'd like to own as a dream game system, I'd have to say that I'd also want to own a PC Engine or a Neo Geo. I hope to buy them eventually on eBay.

I use to use PS2 as my DVD player but I eventually got sick of it and got myself a real DVD player. Brand name DVD players cost as little as $80. To me it is not a disadvantage at all that Gamecube does not function as a DVD player.

If you want to play games, use a gaming console. If you want to go online, use a computer. If you want to watch DVDs, use a DVD player.

I'm worried that this thread may be growing into a systems war thread. Let's try not to let that happen. I have seen system war threads at gaming sites and they can get quite ugly.

Starting a system war will just make people look like idiots, so we can laugh at them.

Anyhow:
1. SNES
2. Front Mission/Ogre Battle, both of which were never released in Europe, no thanks to Nintendo of Europe. @#$%!!!
3. No idea.

Currently thinking of getting either a Cube or a PS2. Think I'll go for the Gube/Zelda pack and get a PS2 later this year. Still have a stack of DreamCast titles to check out.

I guess a systems war is inevitable. Gamers tend to be very defensive of their favorite gaming system. Oh well, it will be funny to see all the "XBOX rulez and Lamecube suks" posts.
