Start 11 Move taskbar to non primary monitor

Start 11 Move taskbar to non primary monitor

Love the new start menu's that start11 brings, but I want to be able to move my task bar to a non primary monitor. I'm currently using startallback to move the task bar, but unfortunately these two programs do not play well together at all.

2 monitors.  I want the primary to stay on the left but I want the main taskbar and notifications to be on the right (so that games launch properly but I still get notifications and such on the other monitor).

How many monitors do you have?

I personally use a combination, 2, 3 and 7. I really would like to not have to have task bars on all my monitors just to get it on one, also most of the functionality of the taskbar on the main monitor doesn't work on the secondaries, making it kinda useless to put it on all monitors. Anyone, especially gamers with multiple monitors really don't want to be forced into having it on the primary monitor since it will always be covered regardless.

Any updates on if this will be added? I had to finally switch to windows 11 a couple months ago and it has been driving me nuts from day 1 that I can't move the main taskbar off my primary display.

As some people have said, this is a common thing if you're gaming or otherwise using programs that need to be fullscreen. Often times these programs do not remember or do not let you choose or even switch which display it appears on, and you lose access to a few things if both are forced to be on the primary monitor. Especially since in many games, good luck trying to minimize it smoothly/at all.

The system tray is home to a lot of useful tools, minimized apps, monitoring apps, expanded calendar/clock, audio controls, all kinds of stuff that is useful to have available.

I downloaded the trial of Start11 today as google searching led me here and I've used other Stardock software in the past, but without this feature this isn't one I'll be getting for the time being.

We appreciate your feedback.  Users have requested this before, but there is no news at this time on implementation.  For the time being, the ability to hide the taskbar on the primary monitor is possible.  However, I'll add the feedback here to our log on the request.

Would like to add to this thread. Switched to Win11 recently, can't move the taskbar to non-primary monitor (I want it on my left, non-primary, non-OLED monitor to avoid burn-in). Tried the demo of Start11 (was previously using the Steam version of Start10). Can't move taskbar to other monitor. Will not buy this software because of this. I don't really want to support Russian devs, but it seems like StartAllBack is the only option for this functionality. It would be real nice if you guys could do this.

Giving this a reply because can you explain how to do this? Currently I can find settings to autohide all my taskbars or none, but I have been unable to find a setting to hide a particular taskbar. I'm a software engineer with 3 screens, and I like my primary monitor to have the maximum amount of screen real estate while one of my secondary monitors handles the taskbar.

If this could be added it would be great 🫰

Thrilled to pieces I found this thread. StartAllBack having the ability to move my taskbar and Start11 not having that option is kinda wild but I will take it. Hopefully at some point I won't have to use both but at least the licenses are a one and done I guess.

StartAllBack and ExplorerPatcher let you move the taskbar off the main display and Start11 doesn't. WindowBlinds doesn't work with StartAllBack or ExplorerPatcher because they change the taskbar and WindowBlinds has no option to exclude the taskbar from skinning. I am losing my mind just trying to get the Windows legacy apps to follow dark mode while having my taskbar on my second display. It can't possibly be that hard to add this feature to Start11. Just make it possible to move the taskbar off the main display. One taskbar on secondary display only. Please, for the love of god.

I understand how frustrating that must feel. From what I know, the dev team is aware of the capabilities offered by StartAllBack and ExplorerPatcher. The difference is that Start11 and WindowBlinds don’t work the same way those tools do — they’re designed to enhance and customize without altering the underlying Windows configuration. That approach helps avoid compatibility issues with other apps and system components.

That said, I don’t know exactly what’s going on under the hood or how each of these programs achieve their results — I’m speaking from what I believe I know. Because of that, features like moving the taskbar entirely to a secondary display aren’t as straightforward as they might seem. If it were something that could be done cleanly without changing Windows’ original system behavior, I believe it would have already been implemented.

Your feedback is valuable though, and I’m sure the team will keep it in mind as they continue improving Start11.

Thank you,

We listen to a lot of client feedback - 99% of this Start 11 history page is from client requests and findings:

https://www.stardock.com/products/start11/history

If any competitor's feature fits Start11's core design, we will consider it.

That said, if X does not work with a competitor that operates in the same space as Start11, and functions fine when just Start11 is used, we are less concerned but have made exceptions in the  past (does not work with 'Adobe X' for example)

With regards to having a taskbar on the non primary display, this is something we have been looking at.  We just need to be comfortable that it is supportable long term as we don't want to release something and then it gets broken by OS changes

I actually managed to get WindowBlinds 11 and ExplorerPatcher to get along, so I finally have everything exactly how I want with a cohesive system-wide dark mode and taskbar on secondary display. WindowBlinds remains the only solution I have ever found to apply a dark mode to legacy apps, so I will always use it. Microsoft's bizarre decision to make the taskbar unmovable in Windows 11 was just a new headache. It's exciting to hear that Stardock is looking at adding that functionality to Start 11 and I hope implementing it goes well. I genuinely think it will add significant value to Start 11, as I found so many people same as me looking to move the taskbar to non-primary display when I was trying to do it. Good luck and thanks for the replies.
