We're looking into it. If I stopped to post that for everything that came up, nothing would ever get done.

I think someone from Stardock should have at least send me the file for re-update SDC from 1.04.185 build 20 to 1.12.212 build 29 (and not 1.15.216 build 30 of course ...)

I just wonder what i would have been able to do with my PC since that if i did'nt succeed to fix it myself ...

You are aware of how busy those folks at Stardock really are?
They can't just drop everything they're doing in the middle of a large project just to sort all your problems out.
When they have time and resources available to fix a problem, they will, and they'll let everyone know.
Do you honestly believe they'd ignore a problem with one of their main programs?
Please.....

No problems with SDC here. Maybe the problem lies elsewhere...

And SDC should also auto-update when you run the program, if you haven't got that option set, then the fault is with You! not Stardock, so instead on becomming a Mona Lisa, make sure you have set the program up correctly >

Some of you may read the SDC newsgroup before telling anything ... i'm not the only one who get troubles ...
Did you also email Stardock support on the 23rd when you first posted here and on the ng about your problem?

Gee I love being yelled at by other users, don't you all?

Yeah, support newsgroups are generally full of problem reports. That's kinda what they're there for. Please name one product for me that no one, ever, has problems with.

I DO read the newsgroups and I didn't see anyone else reporting this problem with the update.
I do, however, see a thread from you about once a month or so saying SDC "doesn't work!!!!!!!". At that point I'd be thinking, A) it doesn't get along well with your machine, or B) operator error anyone?

I'm sure they're doing the best they can at SD. >

Actually there were a few other posters who also reported problems with the next to last SDC update. The first thread I noticed was dated the 22nd. A new update was issued to disable the problematic function (Smart Startup? What is that?) but reportedly didn't work. So it's not just neophil who had problems with that update.

Thanks to have read well the newsgroup sig101 (and nope i did'nt mailed directly support @ stardock : 1°) because as you noticed i was not the first to mention the problem ... 2°) because Stardock guys asked me for a test about the latest WB4 version under Win98 ==> though i thouhgt they might have follow what was going on it ... )

I usually check the newsgroups before I allow the update just in case people are reporting problems. But this time I didn't and didn't see the posts until after I updated. Fortunately I didn't have any problems with the update. If I had really serious problems, I would not have been happy either.

Yep i do the same, but this time i didn't ..... and the result was not really clean
OK, i've finally succeed to fix it on my own, but how many other people may have the problem, without having mentionned it, perhaps in the impossibility to do it ??? (at the beginning i had to take another PC to communicate on the newsgroup ... )

well, if your playing being a part of beta testing, you sure as hell do not have room to whine about being the one who finally fixed it.

You record the errors and system configuration...
What you attempt and or what is done to fix the error...
and you email it in as an FYI...

Agreeing to mess with Beta software and then throwing a fit about it when something breaks as if you've been torpedoed and are now dead in the water is counter productive to say the least...

just my personal point of view...

IPlural, when i say i fixed it, i mean i just do things to be able to use my PC normally again, not that I fixed the bug of the program ... (sorry for my english ..)

ahhh Neophil, my mistake in reading, sorry about that

sig, I know SDC is not in beta, what I referred to was WB4 under 98 beta and infered that the issue was revolving around updating WB4/98 through SDC...

The only issue I have noticed with SDC is updating across SDNet and WinC subscriptions not seeming to take for a few days.

It's possibly appropriate to remind one and all that Wincustomize.com is not 'Stardock Support', and should not be seen as 'the' appropriate forum for product assistance....

mmmmm, could be... wabbit

As was mentioned in the newsgroups, you can keep hitting ESC while the PC is logging on to work around the issue. Until we can debug the cause, the new auto-update for SDC will disable the MCP SmartStartup functions.

Smart Startup is the new splash screen you see while Windows is booting, I believe? Seems to speed up startup a bit.
