Right click taskbar to close single window

In Windows 10 you could right click an item in the taskbar when items not combined and have the option to close that single window. Now the only option is to close all windows which is something I would probably never want to do.

Is there a way to close a single window without having to click on it to maximize it first and then click the X. Extra clicks when you just want to close a single item. For example, if you have 5 chrome windows open and you only want to close one window.

Hello,
Just curious, but has this been forgotten? I too would also like to see this change, as I often have multiple instances of the same program running. 

Accidentally closing them all, when I just intended to close a single instance is a bit annoying. A "Close this stack" or similar would be excellent.

Workaround / trick: if you hold SHIFT when right clicking you still get old context menu then you have the Close menu option.

Notice C is underlined it is our hotkey, a quick way to close stuff is shift+right click->C .

P.S. I think some apps like Discord might be interfering with old windows context menu.

Shift / Right Click works great! Didn't know that ability existed. Solves the problem for me.

This is critical for me. I don't want a "close all" button, I want a close current window button. Because I don't group window at all.

Pinging this thread.  Please add this feature.

The shift-right-click works but sometimes the Close gets hidden behind the taskbar.  Maybe because i have it 2 rows high?  Not sure, i'd rather it be on the context menu.

PS i regret going to Windows 11

You should be able to hit C for Close even if the shift+click classic context menu is obscured.

Bumping thread.

 

Shift+Right click feels more like a temp workaround than a permanent solution... The "Close single window" option should still be implemented as it is a natural and common sense feature. Close Single window is 100x more important than Close All.

Also Shift+right click feels messy because more times than not, the "Close" button context menu get pushed behind the taskbar or the Program preview image for whatever reason and just throws everything off. Pressing "C" also doesn't feel like a solution, no one wants to be pressing multiple keys and strokes and clicks just to close a single program when powertasking through work.

Please push up the chain and get this simple addition integrated into app. Competitor tools (free and paid) already have had this implemented along time ago with no issues.

Another user here, forced onto Windows 11 as I bought a new laptop and there are no drivers available for Windows 10. 

Downloaded Stardock to get the Windows 10 taskbar back, and I keep continually closing all my 50-chrome windows out of muscle memory. It's frustrating switching back between a Win10 and Win11 computer and not having the same UX/UI. 

Please enable the Close Single Window selection!!

Competitor tools (free and paid) already have had this implemented along time ago with no issues.

Can you DM me the other tools you tried out that have this implemented? I'd like to try out alternatives too. Thank you!

Already uninstalled this and installed the other tool because of this. I can work with less-featured vanilla start menu, but I can't live without this "Close Window" Button.

I keep running into the same problem.

 

Whenever I have multiple tabs of the same program, I expect to only close a single tab, but it automatically closes ALL tabs for that program. It's extremely frustrating and doesn't make any sense.

I would love to see an options to switch the default right click menu option to "close single window!  Start 11 was the first thing I installed when I updated to 11, and itt took me days to figure out that I wasn't doing anything wrong, the current behavior is just different from Windows 10 taskbar.

We are looking into a possible option in how to handle this.  It isn't quite as simple as it may appear as our product works differently to some others.

Adding my +1 to this. I get burned by this frequently in Windows 11 and find it infuriating. As others have said, I almost never want to close all explorer windows, for instance.
