Converting Msstyles to WindowBlinds visual styles

This was asked recently so here's a quickie guide on how to do it.

(1) Download SkinStudio 4 beta from http://www.skinstudio.net

(2)Choose Convert MSStyles

(3) Choose the one you want. I'm using StefanKa's cool "6 pack" visual style.

(4) Now you're in Universal Skin Format mode. You can now edit the visual style in whatever way you'd like. I.e. change color, move buttons around, tweak it a bit here and there.

(5) Then File-Save As... Choose WindowBlinds UIS1 or UIS2 (UIS1 = faster UIS2 = more features -- either will work with an msstyle).

(6) Final result.

Note: DO NOT distribute visual styles you've converted without asking for the original author's express written permission. The original author retains all copyright rights to the visual style regardless of what format/language it is in.

If you download a MSStyle theme that has several subskins, how do you save it to a WB with those same subskins? I clicked add subskins and added them, but it won't let me "save as".

Thanks Froggie baby. I was almost ashamed to admit that I had (in the past) used WinStyles. NOW, with your help, I can take them and tweak them, and love them and bring them home and call them "George". I will do some playing around and if I can come up with an answer for you, MontyXP (and DPG) I will post back.

Thanks again, Frogboy! You RAWK!

Awesome feature! I downloaded a few nice creations from another site, followed the directions, and voila! Both came out nicely transformed into windowblinds. Thanks.

for some reason the msstyle conversion doesn't work for me. it does most of everything but there are always parts missing. such as substyles...that hasn't worked for me yet. could anyone help?

-xino - Do the msstyle's you are trying to convert already have their own shellstyles? If not, then nothing'll be there ... just something to check as not all msstyle's have shellstyles.

as far as I can tell they do have them.
I should be more specific. the task panel on the right of windows isn't changed. it's jsut the default WinXP stuff. if I'm the only one who this happens to...not big deal. I was just wondering if it's a bug or it's me.

Thanks for the kind words, we really appreciate!

Now let's solve some problems:

MontyXP it just does. When you convert make sure you go to "options", then in the "parameters" tab select as the target format one of the WindowBlinds visual styles (first one is USF, second one is UIS1, third one is UIS2). Otherwise it converts dto USF and then yes, it does USF->UIS conversion one style at a time.

three_4me - it's WindowBlinds glitch, not conversion. It will get handled in the next WB beta - you can partially fix it now by deleting the scrollbar width in skinmetrics but it will make the scrollbars wider. The location of the setting is:
Section: "Miscellaneous"->"Skin Metrics"-> Attribute: "Scroll Width"

flippwilson - no and it won't. Don't ask for it.

sirianmckellen - it not beeing sticky is a limitation of the free version, (not sure about the latter), the prescription is called "registration".

anyone having problems with shellstyles - the msstyles zip has to be extracted with folder structure preserved for the shellstyles to get converted. It's the same as if you wanted XP to recognize them.
