If I'm really honest all I really want is the current game rebuilt and optimized for a modern game engine (any chance that could be an easter egg, maybe something modders could do?).

This isn't to say I'm not excited for Sins of a Solar Empire 2 just not very imaginative in what could be done to improve SoSE.  Long as it doesn't slow to a crawl in the multiplayer late game and supports COOP LAN play against AI and retains most of the feel and play of SoSE I'll be happy.

I'm in 100%. Just pre-ordered, very excited! For me, its all about the majestic combat built for a modern, 64 bit system. I hope some of the audio queues remain. I'd love to hear "Our scouts have found a colonisable planet" just one more time

I've kept coming back to Sins every now and then, and now that it's been so long since that came out I'm most excited to see it with modern technology. No other game could really scratch the same itch.

Also, a single-player campaign (or even a multiplayer campaign) would be great.  SoaSE is the only game I know of that has an incredible amount of lore that doesn't get explored, revealed, and advanced in gameplay.

Why Epic exclusive? I don't want to deal with another launcher

Because it makes no sense to be tied to one storefront.

Good old impulse launcher :3

May not have played the game as long as others here, only began last year. Still, I can honestly say it's one of my favorite RTS games of all time. That said, here's some things I'd like to see based off my gameplay experience: 

- More unit asymmetry: even if the factions as a whole have drastic mechanical differences (e.g. the Vasari being the only one with Phase Gates), the actual units themselves don't differ all too much between factions in terms of playstyle, asides from minor stat changes. Would like to see more distinction between faction ship types and composition; we saw something in that direction in Rebellion where the Vasari are the only ones without a long-range siege unit for example, or how different the various sub-faction's Titans are from each other, and I'm hoping that can be used as a basis for rethinking the unit composition between factions, making it so that a particular faction may have something the other lacks, or having ships of the same type play completely differently from one another in more visible ways outside of stats.

- A more accessible UI: as nice as the first game was, the UI was definitely one of its weak points. As an example, the entire research tree had incredibly small progress bars that's so hard to see at 1920 x 1080p. At the very least, would be nice to have more options on how to scale the UI. 

- Tactical Pause, preferably one that's more deeply integrated into the game. 

- Steam release
