Film Image reproduction debate

Using film image to produce walls, logons, boots or other skins is not allowed.

Take for example the film "Lord of the Rings" in the library there are many very well designed theme logon screen skins using film image available from

And yet on the same website the terms and conditions state the following: I quote

actually thats not that gobledlygooked all up in the chizzouse. I basciallly saes that you can have only 1 coopyu of any nthing of thiers and you cana't distributate it with thier rittn perimissionona.

When an image is found and verified to be of restricted copyright use then its uploading/display here can be addressed.

What is required as a minimum, ideally is that any image's source is indicated with the upload to verify proprietorship as no-one is an all-seeing mind reader ....omnipotent or omnipresent.

Prove it's yours to distribute and it may be.

Prove it's not and that, too will be addressed.

The escape clause of 'fair-use' does not necessarily encompass the reproduction/distribution of images in Bootskins, Walls and Logons as 'fan art', certainly not when...."No Online Material may be copied, reproduced, republished, modified, uploaded, posted, transmitted, distributed in any way, or otherwise used for any purpose without the prior written permission of their respective owners".

Since just recently sifting through the Logon and Bootskin submissions and noticing 'trends' it's mildly amusing to note who authored this topic....

So basically some people get through the net (excuse the pun) and others get caught !

Depends on the individual who looks at the upload and their opion at that moment in time.

There seems to be a big difference on IP in Australia and the USA with regard to so called "fan images" .

You have such a vast library (one to be proud of) sorting it must be a nightmare job, and there must be days when the above applies.

At least we all know what we should be doing....Art for art sake... Original or bust !

Dune2996....some people do get through the net....some people succeed in getting ripped works, etc on public display here.

What's important to realise is the number of works that we DO manage to intercept successfully far outnumbers those that sneak through.  The numbers of the latter can be a result of ignorance on the part of either the submitter or the Admin or both but usually once public it's soon brought to attention and resolved.

Yes, we are human, ergo fallible, though I gotta admit not as naive as to post 'Digital Frost' and not know its correct author and that it was a rip [as happened recently elsewhere].....even Google knew who did it....

Only ingnorant people get get Mad about things, intelegent people raise issues that connect and attract all of us to the net.

My concerns are to understand the bounderies of "film and images" used in work produced. Whats the point of spending hours producing say a "Homer Simpson" Logon screen only to find out its rejected on the grounds of "copywrite" !

It is after all a very tempting and fun to use a popular theme or "fan images".

Looking at the library a lot of art producers design and make some very unique skins based on popular "fan images" or themes.

The Terminator 3 and X box suites are great examples of work based on a product designed and produced originally by other authorers and then modified into skin.

Are these artists any more or less artists simply because they used a theme that already existed ? I think not.

So its a very grey area, those people editing this type of artwork uploaded are in the spotlight and will forge the future boundaries if the net is to have some sort of cohesion.

Thanks to Jafo and people like him I now have a better understanding of what is and is not acceptable.

This then saves me and them time !

The Terminator 3 and XBoX stuff made by The Skins Factory were commissioned by the people that made them, which means they had permission from the owner of the copyright.

That statement makes me kind of mad...

Listen to Boxxi. If Skins Factory brings something 'pop' out, they were hired to by the company in question. That's reason it is best to contact admins about questionable material privately and not openly suppose that work is stolen.
