Start11 crashes

Hello,

On Windows 11, I frequently experience crashes of the Windows shell (Explorer) upon startup.
Restarting usually resolves the issue, though not always.
I have tried using an alternative start menu, Open Shell, and the problem does not occur when using that. Is this a known issue, and if so, what steps are being taken to address it?
Thank you.

Ron Doomen.

Does your windows event log point to the cause of the crash and what version of Start11 were you using?

I don’t know how to access the log file.
I am using Windows 11 version 26H2 26300.9711 and Start11 version 2.81.
I have disabled the enhanced taskbar.
It’s a nice program, so it’s a pity that it causes Windows to crash.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Would like to recommend, to try, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

Thank you,

This may or may not be the same issue, but I documented a reproducible Start11 2.81 explorer crash in a separate topic: "Start11 2.81 reproducible explorer.exe crash with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 15" (Start Menu Products), with stack analysis and dumps.
In my case the faulting module in the Windows event log (Application log, Event ID 1000) is oleacc.dll, and the crash only happens when software that hooks into the shell through accessibility is running (Dragon NaturallySpeaking). Turning off the Start11 Start menu while keeping the Start11 taskbar stopped the crashes.
Ron, if your event log shows oleacc.dll as the faulting module, or if you run dictation, screen reader or similar accessibility tools, it might be the same root cause.

Are you using a horizontal or vertical taskbar?
