Major bugs with Enhanced Dialog.
I thought you'd want to know that, like Jim, Enhanced Dialog breaks things upon install.
Last week I installed ED on my WinXP Pro SP1 box and continued working as usual. Shortly I discovered that Norton AntiVirus 2004 had been disabled (turned off), and would not re-enable. The same thing happened with Javascript support in IE 6. The IE security settings showed JavaScript was enabled, but nothing would run. Windows Update, online anti-virus scans (e.g. Panda Active Scan), and even JavaScript e-mail address masking on websites all failed, most informing me that JavaScript was disabled in the browser.
Even worse, System Restore broke. Since System Restore uses an HTML UI running on JavaScript, it came up blank. There was nothing in the UI but white.
I tried the typical troubleshooting steps (safe mode, etc.), but nothing helped. I thought I had contracted a virus, so I reformatted and spent the following three days re-installing and re-configuring my mission-critical applications--I'm now halfway to where my system used to be.
After testing on another computer (WinXP Pro SP2), I discovered that Enhanced Dialog was the culprit. On a clean OS install (nothing but the OS, hardware drivers, and McAfee AntiVirus 9) it disabled McAfee AntiVirus and halted JavaScript.
I would have submitted this to the Usenet group, but I haven't had the time to get my newsreader reinstalled.
