updating

I bought galactic civilisations when it came out and happily played it for about a month. However i have just reinstalled the game and wish to update it, but to update ive been told to use stardock central. SDC asks for the email i used to purchase the game, but i had bought the game from a shop. Am i going wrong somewhere, cos atm i am unable to download any patches

Pls help

In SDC select 'Register Products' under 'Tools', and fill out the blanks.
