Valentine's Day: The Irony of Love & Chocolate

Reason suggests that if a person has a fulfilling love life, then they're less likely to to crave chocolate for the resultant dopamine rush. So if a person has love, then why should they need chocolate during Valentine's Day?

I wonder if people buying the chocolate are either: 1) buying it for themselves as a substitute for the rush that feelings of love produce; or 2) Men buying it for a Woman, hoping that she will associate the delectability of the chocolate with him. .....?

Then again, maybe it just plain tastes good.

well, in a community so reluctant to change traditions, chocolate could easily be seen as simple as symbol of affection and care.....or chocolate giving males are just doing it because they have to because other males are doing in on valentine day
me? GO TO HELL WITH VALENTINE!

Two other ideas....
1) Chocolote = dopamine = good feelings = happiness = happy woman puts out =man is happy....doesn't need chocolote....

2)It's a commercialization that has evolved into a cultural norm that will never be able to be removed due to the power of advertising...

I agree with you mythgarr...For the reason that lifehappens stated below, plus Valentine's Day has never meant much to me aside from the decorations that are fun for children to make.

It's a commercialization that has evolved into a cultural norm that will never be able to be removed due to the power of advertising...

The advertising industry makes me angry because of all the power they have over consumers. It's almost nothing for a person to fork out a buck or two for a small thing like chocolate, but for every person who forks out a couple of bucks, to the chocolate industries that adds up to TRILLIONS of dollars. Sheesh. What a waste of money. Sometimes I look forward to some globally huge calamity that will jar people back into their right minds. Huge calamities make us stop and think about how we've been living, and what we ought to change about it...for example...the kind of junk we spend our money on could instead be set aside for better causes.
