Wicked

For Good

In choir we're singing a song from the broadway show Wicked. the name of it is For Good.

"Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood

Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a bird in the wood

Who can say if I've been
Changed for the better?
I do believe I have been
Changed for the better

Because I knew you...
I have been changed for good."

the people we meet and spend our time with shape who we are, whether in a negative sense, or a positive. this is one lesson i learned today in class.
Alot of people view chorus as a class you'd take for an easy A, with little or no educational value. but in reality, it teaches lessons that are more valuable in life than any math equation or historical statistic ever would be.
it's not the notes on the page, or the stretching of our vocal chords. it's the lyrics in the music. the meanings behind them. it's learning to work together with people who are completely opposite from you, aside from music, and people you may not particularly care for. it's not about the individuals. it's about the group as one unit, and the way we recieve, and present the music to others. it's learning to grow together, to push yourself farther, to be flexible in your view of how things to be done. not everything needs to be the same every time around. it's learning how to live in a society where not everybody has the same ideas or interpretation of the music.
in life, we encounter many people whose viewpoints differ greatly from our own. some people will clash with our personalities, but we need to realize that we're always going to have to work with people we don't like. no matter how much we can't stand each other sometimes, it's important to realize that two heads are better than one.

Music is a window into man's soul.  For Music is inspired by passion, and a pouring of emotion.  So yes, it can teach you a lot about the human condition.

And HC, the red button!

It took me a while to find it as well.  I just remember it, not like I have not done what you did!

This is an amazing song, and very inspirational. I used it in a speech i made my sr. year of high school. It speaks to everyone who has ever had a close friendship or lost someone special.
