Everyone happy?

I have a giant question. Is everyone in some way shape or form happy with this game? I mean I played and tested many other games and they all fell apart (genesis rising). Is the community happy with the game right now? Are there any major disappointments?

yes, we (as in me) are (as in is) happy (as in... well... happy.)

we have an entire forum post called "what do you like about sins?" and that has a number of things people like. constructive criticism can generally be found in the beta feedback section (along with some "yay i love this game!"'s.

I think the big thing about this game is that the devs actually pay attention to what people say and many parts of this game come from user feedback.

I'm quite happy, my list of people to start beating in Beta3 is quite large... Life can't get much better...

And if you are nice to the Dev's they give you hugs!

genesis rising was a great disappointment and def not the $50 i spent on it, but if the beta 2 is this well balanced and so fun to play then it can only get better from here!

Devs ur doing a great job!

Overall I'm happy ... for a Beta. I believe the GUI and Research need some work - which the devs have said they're looking into. Besides that, combat does seem uninvolving at the moment. The game is a bit shallow at the moment, but I assume that's because it's a Beta.

Not bad for a Beta, but I'm sure it'll improve with age

my thoughts are about the same as mshe, the combat and game needs a bit more life to it.

I think once beta 3 is out and theres possibly new races, that it will add a lot more life to it.

The game is great apart from the ship combat, which has little strategy or tactics.

I think once the AI gets good at the game you will have much more to worry about than watching individual battles. My advice is try playing against several AIs teamed up against you.

i'm happy with the game so far, and the direction it's going in. it needs a few tweaks here and there but overall good

i like the fact that beta 3 will be multiplayer.
i want all the devs who come on to the forums to have a game, to see whos best. then post the game on the forum so we can see who knows the game best.

placing bets now!

I have been waiting for a multi player game like this to come out for years! I played the old strategy board games back in the days when "war in Europe" came in a 3 box set and you needed to rent a hotel banquet room to have 9 players compete in it.
I need to buy a new keyboard every time I think about how well this beta is going. How this whole thing is turning out.. Cause the droll is just too nasty to clean up.

Beware everyone! It is I who held a Generals rank when the Blitzkrieg came that shall now send forth my masses to claim that which is rightfully mine to claim.

All of the known Universe!

I am very happy with the way this game is shaping up!

(For you younglings who don’t know about it, War in Europe was a board game with some 4,000 pieces and a 12 square foot playing map along with about 3 yards of off map production charts. It took a full 24+ hours to play & the cost of the game in 1976 was $60.00 the instruction manual was over 100 pages)

Don't worry about being dissapointed. From what I've seen of this game so far, it only gets better and better. Besides (as mentioned above), if you see something in the beta you don't like as is, make a suggestion and the developers will consider it.

With internet gameplay options coming out, does any1 kno if people will be making "empires" within the game then u would have empire battles or something, that would be cool.

Terran, do yourself a favor: Learn how to use punctuation. Then use some kind of spell check, either the one built into fire fox or use your word processor of choice. Thats one ugly mass of text that I can't even come close to following.

(edit to stay on topic)

So far the game rocks, even with 1 race, and maybe half of it's tech-tree available.

Ron, do yourself a favor: Learn to use lubrication. Then use some kind of forklift, either one in the local department store, or construction site of your choice. Thats one tightly packed stick you've got in there that I can't even come close to removing.

Or just ya'know, learn to take things in context. What ever works for you.

maybe english isnt his first language? dont be so critical of other people ron -.-
(wee bit much there Ishigawa...)

I am sorry for my spelling. Hi I must say your game so far is super. I have made many ship mods for sots and I just love making and customizing ships in games.

I would love this game so much more if it had the ship customization that Sword of the Stars has or something like it. Just being able to do that for the flagship alone would be just amazing, everyone would be able to give their empire a special flavor. For example, changing the way their flagship looks, making it out of different parts and weapons. Say you want the bridge or something that looks like it on the front or back of your flagship or say you want all the weapons on the front or on the side of your flagship. Something like that would make the game really addictive.

Also, you should add a battle cruiser and destroyer to the game. I love your game, I really do, but when super games are made customization is always left out, but if it's included then the replayability is endless.

Perhaps I was overly blunt -- tact is something I have a huge issue with -- but the fact remains that his text is virtually unreadable. And my suggestions -- which were intended as helpful, constructive criticism -- was to try to help him out.

O.o Interesting.

it seems that everyone is happy maybe in need of some serious therpy (i.e. all of us)! but yes the devs are doing a good job!

Yeah, overall I am pleased. Still, I find the game has a few issues that need to be addressed.

1. Combat is a bit....not quite boring, but not really inspired either. Each battle is all about focus firing on one ship after the other. The AI is also a sucker when it comes to splitting up their forces by getting them to chase single insignificant decoy ships.

Possible Fixes:

a) -AI needs to learn to keep its forces together during combat (and prior to combat as well).

b) -AI needs to learn to use focus fire.

c) -Ships getting hit during combat should suffer some kind of accuracy penalty (weapon fire causes hull vibrations that throw off accuracy). This would also help reduce the importance of focus fire during combat.

d) -Damaged ships should suffer from reduced speeds/maneuverability/fire rates. This would further add to the depth of combat.

e) -large weapons targeting frigates should have a tiny chance of missing (right now, only strike craft have any chance of dodging weapons fire). This would encourage the use of frigates a bit. Maybe even Cruisers should have a 1% chance of dodging big weapons. I think only capital ships should be hit 100% of the time.

2. Speeds are alright now, but the gravity wells seem very constricted.

Possible Fixes

a) -Enlarge the Gravity Wells 2 X for planets and 3-4 X for stars.

3. Sometimes having to jump through 5+ stars to get where you want to go just sucks. It simply takes too long.

Possible Fixes

a) -Stars should be interconnected with EVERY other star on the map. This would mean that your ships can get to any other star without having to jump through a bunch of them in series.

*I understand that the developers are worried about 'Whack-a-Mole', but that would apply more to IF planets were open connected. Also, if you have Radar Lvl 2, you will see the approaching enemy ships a long ways off as they approach your star....PLENTY of time to react.

4. Many of us modders are hopping that SoaSE will be the Holy Grail of all empire building space games. While I already know that most of the tools I was looking forward to will be included in the game, I am hopping that some of the following be included as well.

a) -allow us to mod in a fog of war/sight range within gravity wells.

b) -allow us to make single gravity wells that holds a star, as well as several fully functional planets/asteroids (yes, all within the same star gravity well).

c) -allow us to specify a range on the Phase Space Inhibitors (as well as an antimatter cost).
