Hi Nequa. Thank you for creating a thread which is perhaps a bit more appropriate for me to posting in than the 'America Superpower thread'. I was having a troubling time staying on topic :) I'll post in here from now on. Nfeldav made a comment in the American superpower thread that in admist the howling on Tibet on both sides, there's not so much news on what 'the average Tibetan' thinks. I completely agree. As mentioned, I'm Han, I'm Chinese and I live in Beijing. The diffic

Trying to link this post to the original poster's topic, China's success and rise (especially in comparison with the US) is often contrasted with how bad we are at human rights. Recently, Tibet has been the shining example of how evil we are. Even in Stardock, there's another thread in the forums about China, Tibet and the Olympics - with the general idea that China is evil (sort of Korath + Drengin + Yor + worse). I've intentionally stayed out of that thread - there's many comments there that I
Spacepony - you got me with the Al Sharpton reference. I try to keep abreast of international politics and figures, but had not heard of Rev. Sharpton before and had to Google him. I take it he is very famous in the US - we have not heard of him here in China. Well, I haven't anyway. Regarding labour unions, it is a beginning movement here in China. Our unions are not strong - and we are constantly criticised by the international companies here when we attempt to unionize who see it as
Thank you to the ppl who've pvt. msg. me and given me karma regarding my postings. I didn't think my words would be particularly interesting and I'm very grateful for your responses. Thank you for taking the time to write, to inquire and comment. In China, we sometimes get the feeling that people outside don't make enough effort to find out more about us - instead relying on Bill O'Reilly, Keith Oberman and Dan Rather as gospel. I think the rest of the world is pretty uninformed about China. I a
oops.. I should have acknowledged Ghostwes, not Nequa as Canadian. My apologies. I would have editted my above post... but don't know how.
This is becoming horribly addictive. The original reason I logged on here was to find some MODS for Galciv2 and I'm now writing essays on China. My apologies for the lengths of my posts. Tibet is such a big issue that it probably deserves it's own thread - and this thread is becoming the 'China and it's various things' thread so I guess such talk should neverthless belong in here. Rather than post a very subjective one liner answer to "why did China invade Tibet", might I of
Thank you kindly ghostwes - I'm glad I was able to be understood. It frustrates me that it takes me far longer to write in English than 99% of the people on this board. And as I ended my monologue just then, I try :) I'm hoping that the next generation of Chinese people from my country will be able to articulately discuss international issues, in English, with as much skill as you do over there in the States. Here in China, there are endless articles, newspaper publications, letters to
Upfront acknowledgements: 1. I am Chinese and live in China. I am naturally going to have a pro-China bias and I'll do my best to come across as objective as I can. 2. English is not my first (or second) language. My apologies if I have used incorrect vernacular or nuance in my text. I hope my underlying meaning is clear. When in doubt, I have used Babelfish and I know that at times, it comes out wrong. 3. I log on to Stardock because I like to play Twilight of the Ar
Wow - what a great wrap-up for TA newbies. Many thanks to Divinewrath. I'm just getting started on TA now and one thing puzzles me which I'm sure is bloody obvious to everyone else. On the tech trading screen, some techs have asterisks by their name. What does that mean?
I have searched the forums unsuccessfully and I'm sorry to ask this noobish question. I'd like to purchase TA (well, perhaps pre-order is the proper word) but I can only find the option to purchase it with money. I have 3 tokens saved up and would like to use these. Is there supposed to be a 'purchase with tokens' button somewhere that I am too blind to see? Mightgoobi
Happy to report all fixed. Many thanks to all who had input. I understand Brad is the 'boss' of Stardock. Who is Carielf? The other boss?
Many thanks for your tips Peace Phoenix. I'll keep plodding along with my no doubt less than efficient strategies for now. If I read about how gods play the game, I'll likely just get frustrated about how crud I am. A normal game every now and then is perfect for me - and will no doubt keep Galciv on my hard-drive for a long time.
WOW!! A Maso game in IN HOUR!!! That's something special. I may join an empire eventually - for now I'm very happy plodding along with my 1 week long normal games. Many thanks for your responses - I'll need to look into this empire thing.
Technician is head and shoulders above everyone in the Metaverse and I was wondering if he could share some tips with us. I note that he has a string of 60,000 point games - sometimes submitted apparently on the same day! I'm presuming he has multiple games being played at the same time? I struggle to handle anything above normal difficulty and I note regularl successes at Masochistic. Could you share wisdom?
Many thanks dear CariElf, Stardock support is greatly appreciated and I'm ready to sign up to purchase GalCiv 2 and any other Masterful games! Mightygoobi
Thank you to all the responses - I think you hit 2 nails on the head. 1. I like taking PQ improvements and mixed with the 2 mods I use, it might bump me too high. I'll change this here. 2. I have recently changed computer. I'm waiting on kind Carielf to give me some pointers. In the meantime, I seem to have accidentally changed my email address when I made some of my metaverse submissions. Could you advise how to consolidate my games into one?
I'm still having a ball with GalCiv I and am enjoying different strategies. One thing I can't work out is why some games seem to give me 0 metaverse points and some give me more than 0. I imagine the 0 is when I have somehow flagged a 'cheat' action - but as far as I know, I'm not doing anything different in normal vs. zero games. My most recent game was my first 'huge' victory and I was feeling quite proud of myself - only to be somewhat deflated at getting 0. I play with the same mods for both
Nice point Markos2 and one I had not considered. I unfortunately live a bit far away from my family to have us all playing on the same computer and you have my envy! :) Seems like the current system accomodates both of us - so far as I understand. I just need to make sure I keep the same name once things get sorted out.
Dear Carielf, I'm just putting out a gentle email to see if there is something I can do to assist in sorting out the consolidation of goobigoo and mightygoobi games. If I can register or click on something, I'm happy to do so. many thanks
Dear CariElf, Many thanks for explaining that. I also appreciate the quick response and offer of assistance. I must have inadvertently messed up my names - it was not my intention to change names. If I stick with MightyGoobi, could you 'add' the old GoobiGoo names to this? I wonder if it would be useful to offer players the opportunity to 'lock' their name in. It's only me that uses this computer and I've no desire to have multiple personalities? Many thanks again
Hello veterans, I'm a little confused. I signed up for the TGN package. I recently formatted my hard-drive and reinstalled everything, included Gal Civ and AP. I have only one TGN serial number and have been using that all along. I don't think I've 'upgraded' in anyway - just returned to what I had before. I do not see this 'convert' option anywhere. Could someone lend a hand? Many thanks
Hello all, I've been a reasonable constant player of AP, submitting a game at least once every three weeks for a while. I note that my metaverse ranking suddnely took a plunge and I checked out what happened. It seems all but my last 2 games disappeared. This might be due to the 'metaverse degradation' of games that I've been hearing about. Just wanting to clarify if that is indeed the case. It seems quite stark if so, but I will suck it up and just play more frequently I guess (oh dear
Wow! That sounds complicated. I'm presuming some much smarter person than I came up with that system. I take it the point is to encourage people to play consistently rather than in one big hit and then drop off. Thanks to you for the info, is this stuff printed somewhere in an obvious readme that I missed? I've been reading about Morale, PQ etc. as well and it seems that there is a lot of information on the stats behind everything that I haven't been able to get. ~SDC~
I see... So if I scored 900 points and I have played 9 games, then my score would be 900 divided by square root of 9 = 300? And there's some decay of my points due to the time that I played my game OR the number of games that I've played? So do I lose X points every 100 days or X points every 100 games? Many thanks for the tip ~SDC~
When I go the metaverse list and click on my own name 'mightygoobi', I note that the points that I have scored per game, do not tally up to my overall points. Is there some kind of modifier at work? If not, I would seem to have a let less points than I actually should have. Andrew ~SDC~
