Thanks, everyone! I wasn't expecting so many responses. I ended up getting ME1. Mostly, because of this tip:
ME1 is on sale on impulse today for $5. Just a heads up.
I've been playing for about a day now, and I understand what everyone's saying about the story being more important to the game than the gameplay. Unfortunately for me, I'm absolutely compulsive about listening to every dialog, even though it's no

I had the opposite opinion. I thought that the above review of the review was overly harsh for little reason. The rating may be harsh, but it's fair if it's consistent with other reviews on the site. By 'consistency', I'm not just referring to consistency in terms of ratings, but also to the preferences that contribute to those ratings -- in particular, the review's preference for micromangement over macromanagement. I'll be more specific. I think that you and I fall down o

I'm considering purchasing one of the Mass Effect games. I usually play strategy games, but have heard good things about the series. When I play RPGs, I'm usually more interested in the game mechanics ("just one more level up") than the story. Which one should I get and why?
After release, we'll migrate executable code from C++ to Python so that actual routines can be rewritten by modders as well. We found that more users were comfortable with XML than Python for doing "basic stuff" so we migrated that way.
How much of a performance hit will this cause? Or will we be mostly calling C++ code from Python?

I've played both Sins and Starcraft extensively and enjoyed both for various reasons. Starcraft is certainly the more tactically robust game, but it's difficult to say whether that makes it less strategic. It's possible to play Starcraft without planning, just as it's possible to play Sins without planning. It's not possible to play well in either case.

They're different games. I enjoyed DOW, mostly hated DOW II. Although, for me, the campaign is DOW II's saving grace.

Starcraft 2 by some distance Diablo 3 (won't be released in 2010) Elemental I'll also be suckered into buying CNC 4, which I will enjoy for about a week and never play again.

Saw it, wasn't impressed. The story is shallow. The reviews which paint it as a colonial feel good movie are spot on. The visuals weren't all that impressive either. I think it's because much of the environment looked too similar to what might be expected from a terrestrial forest.
You have not addressed 'who designed the designer', regardless of whether or not that designer is supernatural.
Maybe you can help me out here. I've never understood why anyone believes that this is a knockdown argument against creationism or intelligent design. My understanding of 'who designed the designer' is that it's supposed to function as an internal critique of the argument from design. The intelligent design proponent claims that: (1A) certain complex f
Doh. Wouldn't be the first time an intro had been the best part of a book for me, and I gotta admit I've never thought of Scott Adams as, well, a writer. Gary Trudeau is another matter entirely. If I didn't largely hold prizes and awards in contempt, I'd say he should be the first to receive a Nobel lit prize for an ongoing graphic novel. I'm having 'terribly good fun' this week on account of him having chosen Mark (the gay NPR host) as the avatar for outraged disappointment from my ne
As for the topic at hand, as long as its clearly labeled I don't have a problem with anything, be it nudity, violence, depictions of torture, rape, genocide, whatever. Some people may not want to watch it, and they have a right not to have it shoved down their faces, but others may not have a problem with it and its also their right to feel that way. All these protests and boycotts over "objectionable content" in games, movies and such is pure BS. Live and let live, specially when it c
