I have a cold so some of this may come out muddled. [e digicons]:erk:[/e] I no longer buy any retail games, most of my gaming is via a Games on Demand service called Metaboli (who recently bought GameTap), some through Startdock/Impulse and the rest (though not much recently) Steam. Metaboli and Steam both require an internet connection to play - Metaolbi always, no offline mode; Steam has an offline mode. Both of Metaboli and Steam are at least as secure in and of th
Eh, you should be blaming Kalypso since it's their price that Stardock is forced to match.
No, I'm not happy with this - not that there is a lot I can do about it. I am a great fan of what Stardock are doing and have a lot of their products. This is a Stardock / IronClad game which I purchased through Stardock Impulse in USD and got the prevailing exchange rate. Now we are being told that they cant offer the expansion at fair exchange rates because [b
Personally I don't see the big deal with Fences.
It's horses for courses - I'm a minimal desktop type of user too but I'm trying out Fences to see if it changes my mind. It's certainly a lot better than a bog standard desktop. It might be nice if it incorporated some of the features of the now defunct IconX but then maybe it's those features that Vista can't handle. Some of my favourite toys are getting attention, so I'm happy. Is there going
Is it just me or have the short list of recent forum posts on the SoaSE front page gone to a horrible unreadable bright blue on stripey blue background? I tried it in both IE and Firefox but I just can't read the text and the underline clashing with the stripes just make my eyes water.
And the Euro is fairly strong against the dollar just now so it'll probably be cheaper too (it was for me in GBP).
Let's hope Deus Ex 3 does better. The original is gold, but it would look quite dated by today's first-person standards.
Yeh! - it does look a bit dated - I went back to it a few months ago and was a bit taken aback how much things have moved on. I remember being gob-smacked by its quality first time round. But if you can get over that, it still plays beautifully.
If you are still having problems then you can get back to the 1.05 version, without resorting to the CD, by turning OFF the "Show pre-release versions" from the aforementioned "Orb" menu and then you can install the latest full release. I eventually figured this out after having failed to get he beta after two nights and an entire morning trying - including getting to the "Oh no! I've uninstalled SINs and can't install it again!" stage. P.S. I found the Orb menu cos' I fiddle w
OK, I give up - it is a waste of time. I've spent all morning waiting on this (uninstalling, re-installing, archiving ...) and it's still not happening. I've re-installed 1.05 and tried updating again (saw a post elsewhere saying it might work) and it still doesn't work.
Sorry if I sounded overly angry there - just frustration. I should also point out that I have NOT been left without the game as I have discovered that if I turn OFF the "Show pre-release versions" option I can download and install the full game - which I am now doing. A fact which other may find useful.
I too have followed all the instructions in this post (tried both servers, uninstalled game and uninstalled Impulse, deleted the temporary files, tried old and new download methods, ensured my internet security is all turned off (feel really happy about that one) only to have been left with no game and no patience. When I try using the "New method" impulse just crashes back to desktop! The old method just gives "Download Error". I have previously been updating Object De
I know this is gonna sound stupid (especially if you already know it) - but don't sit with your laptop on your lap. Most laptops are actually built assuming that the underside of the machine is raised above a solid surface by its feet - giving air flow beneath the machine. If you sit with it on your lap it wont have that ventilation and could easily overheat. Similarly, don't sit it on any other soft surface - on a desk or table is best. And keep any vents at the side or rear
I think you might count this as cheating but ... On a Sinclair programmable calculator, with red 10 or 12 digit LED display and 79 program steps if I remember correctly, a game called "MoonLander". You had to type the program in before playing every time (no permanent storage) and the "game" consisted of typing in thrusts and it would calculate a new height - if you got down to zero without going negative (splat) you won. I got really annoyed cos' I converted it to the schools
Every time I get a new machine the old one goes in a huff and stops working. Sometimes a little before the new one arrives - just to mess with me. It's true - on my 5th at home and every single one is a door stop. Hmm, that's about one every 4 to 5 years (not counting upgrades). 3 machines around my desk at work - not counting the sacrificial one we keep around for kicking.
I honestly thought I would since I'm exclusively SP. But as someone else has pointed out there are tons of maps each of which can be played as any of the factions, with all sorts of combinations of AI opponents and other gameplay tweaks. So, no not really missing it. I would play it if it was there - I like a (hopefully) good story.
Thanks for sticking up for me.
Sorry if I sounded like I was having a go at you - I wasn't at all. I was just genuinely confused and looking for clarification - I understand now - thanks.
@UEF Soldier, That is what I thought but ...
SOLAR SINS RELEASED!!! Version 1 is out. SOLAR SINS is a standalone mod, that incorporates: SINS PLUS Bailknight's Graphical mod Sins Enhanced New Stars and Gas Giants by DANMAN New Barren Texture by FourAcesII
... and the size of the download make me think that Solar Sins includes everything that is in 7 Deadly Sins plus a few extra bits.
I'm a little confused - what is the difference between Solar Sins and 7 Deadly Sins?
You'll not stop the deliberate piracy - technological solutions just slow them down to a lesser or greater degree. What concerns me more is the increase in what I think of as casual or ignorant piracy. People who don't realise that what they are doing is in any way wrong. It's stretching out from online music & video piracy and I see it in friends and family around me. It's just seen as "sharing stuff". I do my bit (with varying levels of success) by trying to educate those a
There is also the model used by GameTap (and done better by Metaboli in he UK): A monthly subscription to a catalog of games where you can download and play any number of games from a growing catalog at any time. There are still some kinks to iron out in the system the main ones being: - there's usually a month or twos delay before a game comes online (but the occasional game hits the service before the shops) - patches are similarly delayed - you need to be online and
irrnt, You are confusing the mechanism of the act with the act itself and the nature of the goods with the goods themselves. It is theft no matter how you choose to perform that theft and whether or not the object of that theft has a physical form. You talk about property but forget about "Intellectual Property". My company writes high cost, low volume, software protected by physical USB security dongles - it only works with the device plugged in. We permit our users to ins
This is nothing new, mod-ing games has been around almost as long as games - in fact just as long. Some of the earliest games were released in source code form on university networks for ultimate "mod-ability". Commercial games have had "level editors" about as long as I can remember - and I'm pretty old ;) It wasn't long after the release of Wolfstein 3D that id Software released mod-ding tools and have continued to do so with Quake and Doom. Bioware also toyed with paid-for communi
It is just the anti-aliasing on the font - added to the fact you only have an analogue input. Add those together and it can get quite bad. Also if you are messing with the in-game anti-aliasing do make sure that your haven't set up your graphics card to over-ride the games anti-aliasing. Here's a link to the font mod mentioned above: [link="https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=10&libid=71"]Font mod[/link] which should help. A better cable might also h
I got mine downloaded from here too and I'm from the UK. As a general note - PC Games are not like film DVD's (and some console games) - US versions work fine. And as someone said earlier - with the conversion rate as it is just now it's the cheapest way to get games in the UK since most stores are still doing close to £1=$1 (rip off merchants). If you're not too bothered about printed copies of manuals you don't even need to worry about postage costs. Enjoy
I'm usually fairly careful about saving my game manually as I go but for some reason I didn't bother tonight and decided to just rely on the auto saves. As luck would have it I got distracted by something and forgot to pause (yep - one of those nights) and came back to find myself getting heavily stomped on. No bother, I think, I'll just nip back to an autossave: but there weren't any from tonight! All auto-saves were for a couple of days ago (the last game I played). Of course
