Maybe I'm wrong... I play regularly on the Masochistic and Suicidal level -- but I play slow developing games. I play conquest-only -- but once the initial colonization phase is over, I stay put and build, build, build (I normally get ALL Galactic Achievements and Trade Goods). When I'm ready to start wiping out the galaxy -- my planets are all COMPLETELY developed- all tiles in use. Not saying it's any great skill to do so -- I'm just more of a mercenary and trader than the Korx...

Too bad. Haven't tested enough to say with any authority whether I'll like asteroid fields more than the tile bonuses... but I was a big fan of the tile bonus. I was an obsessive CTRL+N guy -- looking for a good mix of planets perfect for my manufacturing cap, tech cap, econ cap (+ morale or + food), etc. If it's a relatively simple factor that determines # tile bonuses, I'd love to see it as an option to +/- their abundance. I understand that replacing their prevale

I like the starbase fleets idea (allowing starbases to join a fleet). It's simple and elegant, IMHO... In 'reality' any starbase is likely to rely on some sort of detached vehicle(s) for defense -- so simply allowing starbases into fleets would be great. They would, of course, be immobile. The other plus - it's annoying when my 'defensive base protection' fleets (made up ships with high defensive value, but no engines whatsoever) constantly wake from their 'guard' missions...

Sorry for duplicating the question, but it appears that post was in another topic, and I meant it as a DA question. I'm really hoping the answer is no -- but are tile bonuses gone (or maybe just temporarily gone during beta)? I've fired up about a dozen games - and haven't yet seen ANY tile bonuses.

Bump. I'd like to see the answer here, too. I've edited my planets file - 26 PQ planets in my system - and still have yet to see any tile bonus of any kind. I hope these weren't removed -- Virtually ALL my games go well past every civ completing the tech tree, and we're usually battling it out with enormously powerful huge ships... building these on a planet without a 3X or 7X factory is near impossible... Ditto planets with large populations (though... I gue

OK -- I used CTRL-N quite a bit until I get a good galaxy to start in... I've noticed this before - but this is the first time it's happened in a game I want to salvage... The AI does NOTHING - no building, no researching, no exploring -- nothing. I've played about 40 turns, and while I'm tucked in a corner and have made no contact - the 9 AI 'spheres of influence' are still perfectly round, they definitely have colonized no further worlds... and I've gotten NO indications of galacti

Re: Random seed... Actually - planet tiles don't change from save to reload --- but events most certainly do. Should you care to save/reload dozens of times - you can coax out different planetary events, different UN resolutions, and different random events (hyoerhyper warp, rare bird eggs, etc.... though since these aren't predetermined to fire at a specific time - you wouldn't necessarily get an event at all). I've found that

Ah-ha! My hero! I guess it pays to follow the linky-links -- I'll just stay away from info invasions... what the heck - even though I'm off on my own against Intelligent Yor, Drengin, and Korx - this way I can even say I beat the AI with one hand tied behind my back. ...and...uhhh... if the AI gods are monitoring this thread - I submit that it was COMPLETELY fair for me to get a couple "re-rolls" since my invasion was p

I second the Stargate mod looking forward to-ness! I've actually been looking around at some of the mod assistance here and elsewhere and thinking I might give it a shot myself. I would think a stargate mod would be perfect for a big sandbox game... especially since the included races really do translate quite well to SG-1/Atlantis races... to wit: Drengin = Wraith Altarian = Asgard Yor = Replicators Arcean = Geni

Hate to pile on -- but I have to agree.... The forum is quite hard to navigate and not that I'm an expert or anything -- but I've spent my fair share of time lurking, reading, posting in other forums (HOI, EU, OOTP, CIV3/4, etc) and really do find this one the hardest to get around and interact in. I just posted a duplicate bug report -- not because I didn't diligently try to see if it had been previously reported (I did -- for about 30 mi

Ooops... apologies... I should have looked closer... I just posted an identical bug -- but since it was happening to me as the invader, I was focusing on planet invasion bug reports. The problem for me is that it really screws me over in a very entertaining game (gigantic map, conquest only, I'm the sole surviving "good" race.... I end up in revolution due to my 1% approval). Is there any way around this until we see th

OK -- this isn't a crasher, but it's making a currently very entertaining game unplayable... First - specs and drivers are fine (PIV 1.7 gig, 768 meg, 256 meg GeFroce, Windows XP, yada yada... all drivers current). I'm patched to 1.0X.010 - and current game was started post-patch. I'm playing a conquest-only sandbox game, using a custom race, on a gigantic map against 9 opponents (2 of which are already now defeated).

I do think think the AI makes some ...rash... decisions geo-politcally. Just played as a custom race, attacked by an about equally powerful Iconian refuge, used superior technology to trade for cross-war declarations by the Altarians, Arcean, and Thalan on the Iconians... I drove back the Iconian attack, but had taken only 1 world of theirs (gigantic map), and they surrender to the Drengin, my biggest adversary, but safely separated by the w

No Stargate fans? The Civilizations make themselves (if only they knew how to mod) -- The Wraith (Drengin), the Go'auld, the Replicators (Yor), Altarian (Asgard)... Hive ships, Aurora class "precursor" ships, Deathgliders, etc..etc... perfect for a more "epic" sandbox game. Hmmm... I may just have to learn how to mod myself.

I never understood why some developers always seemed to trend towards less of even the minor customization features --- I mean, even Civ III took away your ability to name your own cities, IIRC. I love this bucking of that trend! This is what makes for true replayability.... plus -- the real geeks among us are really going to enjoy creating our Battlestar class ships, along side our Firefly class freighters, together with our Galaxy class starships. -- and maybe the odd

I'm wondering if I'll ever actually get back to playing the game! This has to be one of the coolest new features I've ever seen added to a v2. Wow. Just wow. This is perfect for those of us that yearn to mod, but are either too novice/too impatient to learn the code and/or spend the hours a good mod takes. I've already built alternate colony ships (more speed/range, low cargo space) and constructors (ditto) for those made dashes to far flung planets and resourc

OK.... I kept trying with no luck - but shut down, restarted, and now can choose whomever and how many opponents I please. Must have been an option on the previous page that precluded more than 4 races that I must have missed. Anyway... non-issue, I guess. Sorry

Re: the download.... I'd highly suggest not getting frustrated by the early transfer speed.... When I started, 13-20 kb/sec -- but after a few minutes, speed kicked up to 500+ -- and what looked it might be a couple hour DL actually only took about 10-15 minutes (and no pre-order/pre-install....sorry!! Guess I'm one of the bandwith hogs screwing everyone else . I'm one the people that will usu

Strange - I can't seem to use more than 4 races (world=gigantic, scenario=normal).... Also - won't let me click on custom race - or select any race besides the Terrans. Nothing against the campaign - but prefer to jump into a custom game... do I need to "unlock" the other civs by playing the campaign? Also -- Is there an external tool I need to use to build a custom race (not concerned at this point about eye candy - just attributes)?
