Well that stinks. Guess I'll stop trying to host. It's a shame too. I have lots of cool custom maps. Sigh.

Can't access the page...instead it just searches for it via Google and returns one page. Interestingly enough it returns a page used by a .edu instituion. My apartment complex is separate from, but owned by a local university. I doubt it is a port problem. Like I said, I know that Supereme Commander and other games I own and have recently hosted since installing sins use the same port (6112) and have no problems. Just Sins. I think it's some kind of compatibility issue.
Don't have a modem...I connect via an ethernet LAN line. But I added the two ports to my Windows Firewall Exception list. Um, does that mean someone upstream of you is using a router by any chance?
It's possible. Routers are not allowed in the apartment complex. Though I've hosted and played other games since installing Sins, so unless the person disconnects and reconnects the router using a sixth sense for when I'm onli

This is kind of a repost, so I apologize, but the situation has changed since my original post in the Technical support forum. Plus this new information has led me to conclude it is probably not user side (or if it is, so esoteric that it's beyond me). For some reason ICO keeps giving me the message "ICO has detected that most players cannot join your game this is most likely..." I know others have seen it, and host anyway, but not me! It is confirmed I CANNOT HOST. Other tell me they
Okay, the plot thickens. I did some researching and it turns out that Supreme Commander, a game that I have and play online regularly required port 6112 to be open. I don't think the problem is closed ports...I can host games just fine in Supreme Commander.
In terms of improving ICO, I would like to see a better more "pedestrian user" friendly way to change the default hosting port. I can literally host games in my collection (that's about 10 current games from the past year or so) but not SOASE because the hosting port is "awkward"...or something. My ISP is instituional, so even if I could talk to someone who knows what a port is, they won't change it. So if I could change it in-game to something that I think or know will work without having to
Weird. Well, I'm paying big buck for an apartment that's owned by the university, precisely so I could avoid this crap. Five bucks says I call up the tech department and no one knows what I'm talking about. It'll take me six months to get this resolved. If anyone knows how to access that user.settings file so I could change it to a reasonable port (if you know which one, that'd be great too)! I can play online fine, but can't host. Really stinks.
More woes. I looked up the file I need to change in the FAQ. I have XP, but there is no Iron Clad Games directory under any of the (default) usernames in the Document and Settings directory of my computer...and yes, I have show hidden folder on. No, I don't have multiple users. Yes this is my own computer. It's not connected to a network in any meaninful way. Just plug it into the wall and get my internet...no extra software or any of that. *sighs* I shall forever be a SOASE nomad...
Well, no one every joins the games I create, lol. My ISP is provided by my University via T1. I don't think they'd block any ports. I can call and see, but I doubt it. Um, if its provided by the university I'm willing to be they did block ports
Dang that would suck. Nothing
I'm trying to confirm if my games are just unpopular or if I really can't host. No one in the chat room seems to respond to my pleas for help.

It is confirmed I CANNOT HOST. Other tell me they get an error when they try to join. But here's the thing: I'm not behind a router, and in frustration I've disabled my Windows Firewall. That's right, no router, no firewall. I'm behind a standard ethernet line in my apartment. I've never had to configure
While I agree PJI need to provide a longer delay, I like the fact that they delay and not totally stop phasing. That said, maybe making it so PJI can totally stop phasing when IN NUMBERS would be okay (I.e. half a planets total Tac slots worth of them?) That way, you can't really turtle, but still stop fleets. I don't think Superweapons need a nerf. They are part of every RTS because there are stalemates and each race or faction needs an end to stalemates. You can still win without
Good response! Just wanted to add that the Vasari Assailant ships also get an AOE upgrade, though I've not had a chance to use it yet to compare with TEC's (or Advent's), it is there should you need it and playing Vasari.
It's more like a blockade...and someone decides to run it, darn the torpedoes. I would agree that each race needs a more reliable form of phase inhibition (that has a long delay time for ships trying to phase. But this is more of a patch/expansion thing). For right now you need to defend the world connected to the star. Really build up a defense there. There are few ship setups, at any stage of the game that can just outright destroy a fleet that's heck bent on jumping to a soft planet near
Hangars/Carrier Cruisers/Carrier Cap Ships with bomber squads and maybe a fighter squad or two in there. They'll attack from anywhere in the gravity well without needing your express permission, and are the only ships (the squads, I mean) fast enough to catch up and attack the scout ships. Though, you'll need a fair number to take out a scout ship in one pass. But it is possible with more than a handful of them.
I would agree with Ron. There are generally two levels per each "lower lab level" upgrade. So 5% lasers can become 10% lasers on the second level. Build another lab (or two depending on race) and you research another two levels. It will just keep going up. Ironically, if you are able to do this at about the same rate that someone gets the five labs and heavy cruiser research you can get a frigate armada with comparable hull and shield points to unupgraded cruisers. Then if you thro
Hmmm...I dunno if the devs will work this into the current game, but it is possible because Sword of the Stars and its expansion already does just what you describe. Go ahead and check it out. It's a turn-based and RTS hybrid like the Total War series if you are familiar with those, but set in space.
I've seen that quote in the manual too, but now that I think of it, it seems rather ambiguous. Everything's kosher right up until "Once the primary shield has failed..." To me this implies, that's how armor reduces the damage...not necessarily continuing effects of shield mitigation? I'm new so...is there a way to lab this? Regardless once shields are gone, ships start poppin' purty quick. And about the topic...the reason culture might not be doing much is because...oh. Someone alr
So I got the game a few days ago, but I find myself away from my gaming computer for a while this weekend, and thought I would write some quick tips (and some theories) I have about the game from my first half-dozen games. Think of this as less of a guide and more of an explanation of my current play-style and my reasons for it. I plan on correcting this guide with advice from more experienced players, and as my own experience goes on. This game comes packed with lots of scenarios. T
