It seems to be up for free download here: https://www.stardock.com/products/sf/download.html So I'm not sure what they'd have to gain by re-releasing it and trying to sell it unless they do an entire overhaul to it and make a #2. (It does look like fun though thanks for brining this up)

Here's a few for the wish list: #1: I'm not sure if I;m in the minority on this or not, but I'd really love to see some sort of actual single player campaign. (or at least mod tools to let us script one) The entire intro and back story sets the stage for an excellent single player campaign, the likes of which space rts hasn't seen since the days of the Home World series. (SD delivered a fun campaign in galactic civ II so i know they definitely have the capability for i

I know a lot of people that play over Hamachi rather than using ICO, simply because it's what they use for most other games with their friends the company stopped providing a server for (like Home World 2 C&C Tiberian wars)so it's just as easy for them to play over Hamachi as it is to log in and put up with the trolling/spamming/flame wars you find in 90% of the online game rooms.

About the backgrounds, it's not the OP's fault he misunderstood how "original" they were since he stated himself he's not the one making them his friend was. If he never played Eve and his friend told him he did them from scratch he prolly didn't realize his friend meant the portraits themselves not the backgrounds. Either way, great stuff, it really livens up the game :)

LOL, nice one. I get the sneaky suspicion SD is composed entirely of devs and support people that have gotten fired from all the other companies for actually doing their jobs. ;) It's the only explanation why they have all these crazy concepts like "support the product", "Listen to customers," "don't include DRM software to annoy the user," "Have tech support actually support the game," Along with all those other silly concepts EA and the rest abandoned so long ago.

if you don't like it change it. Modding unit stats isn't that hard really, just a little time consuming. Then you;ve got your version of "perfect game balance" and you can play with anyone else who agrees with you and runs your mod, can't get much easier than that. They;re changing things because well, people are finding exploits or tactics that render some units pointless and the devs obviously want to have all of the units in the game useful. (It's hard for a dev team of 50

Definitely a nice option, since like everyone else says, it makes large scale teamed fights a pain to get organized. On a side note, anyone know why they're skipping .05 -1.0 designations and going straight to 1.1 for the next patch?

I meet and exceed the recommended system requirements in every field (it plays Crysis at max settings along with Unreal III and Front Lines Fuel of War) and have so far had a mostly flawless play experience with Sins (a couple mini dump errors but those are caused by mods not Sins coding) aside from when I messed around modding the carriers into bee hives. I've played with higher unit caps on larger maps without any noticeable problem, but what I was saying was the post in question was

Also unless you're hell bent on playing online you don't even need the serial to install the game or play single player, or LAN games; so until you can get a new one from SD you can at least enjoy the game off line or with a friend without any problems.

If you need a place to host image files try photobucket.com, http://photobucket.com/ it's free to set up an account and you can host hundreds of pics without any problems.

It;s nice to see this stickied, by the way are there any plans in the works for a program to make modding this game easier (similar to the relic developer kit released for warhammer 40 DOW ) Editing all the files by hand in note pad is a wee bit tedious and I'm curious if anyone knows if there are plans for this in the works or not. (If so I'll be a very happy gal.)

Star Dock isn't the only devs willing to let people discuss piracy on their forum actually. I recall a lengthy discussion of piracy and cracks at Kerberos's forums where Swords of The Stars was concerned. (the short version is some of us were complaining about the requirements of the cd being in the drive and wanted that requirement removed in the next patch and the widespread use of a crack to get around this and trying to find one that worked 100%. If I remember right it was one of t

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the big deal about recoding the .exe as opposed to modding any other part of the game? As long as you;re not selling it is it really much different? As far as the green star is concerned, I haven;t seen any difference, so I;d guess that it's just an over sight that it wasn't included. As far as the achievements go, it'd be neat if they were linked to your online profile and it updated every time you connected to check for patches and what not.

Aye, or if you change part of your pc's guts (like a new hard drive or dvd drive) and uninstall and reinstall you have to reactivate it. I remember photoshop had this irritating habit of having to reactive it online if you changed your pc's components at all. That reminds me of another rationalization behind piracy I've heard from more than a few people. Programs like photoshop or Poser 7 costing well over $500-$700. If I'm just using it for my own private amusement and not ma

I get what you're saying, you can just mod it to make the changes so it works just as if you were using a trainer. Only downside is more effort coding all that stuff compared to less effort of clicking a button on a trainer. (and not having go hunting through and removing your changes after you're done, providing you remember what they all are when you finish your mod 3 weeks later)

Aye I've found a half dozen cracks for earth 2160, unfortunately none of them work. (I spent the better part of a week trying various ones, uninstalling and reinstalling the game to no avail) Smart idea you had though and though I respect Earth 2160 for ingenuity, although I don;t approve of their method or want to see it widely used.

It's kinda fun being the underdog, and makes sense if you're the Advent taking on the TEC empire (who are supposed to be the specialists at resources) And it keeps the battle being a challenge for far longer. (once you reach the 3/4 mark with a hard AI you know you've got them beaten, it;s just a matter of finishing it. With Unfair they still got enough of an advantage to make a come back

which patch are you using? I've heard there was some discrepancies with 1.04 between the one downloaded through the games menu and the stand alone downloaded off the net

The problem is let's say you're modding the research tree some. Like for example how many levels of crew training are available, or modding structures like decreasing the build speed on the TEC's planetary cannon. Having to start a new game and tech up all the way to the appropriate research level just so I can make sure it's working right and doesn't crash the game will take a couple hours at least. Granted a invincible frig might make this a little easier (or a fleet of 'em)

Another trick Earth 2160 did was after installation you validated the cd-key online with the companies server. Afterwards you got a activation number that was unique to your pc (randomized off the components you had installed like hard drive, graphics card etc..) that you could use down the road to activate if need be without having to go online again. The beauty of this system was if you used a pirated cd key you couldn't authorize it with their server (they disable cd-keys that got an

[quote] it's kinda hard to umm, find other things to do, when everyone else you know is playing some video game or other. (Apologies for the double post but the edit button's vanished on me) Given I've commented in that thread a few times I feel more than a little silly for over looking the 1.04 download link, although in my defense I referred to them as "reference files" which I assumed back then at first glance meant a change log or some such, not the mod files. A sticky with a download link really does need to be made.
