Given the point people have been making about needing to do quests that may be inside foreign influence borders, maybe the answer is just to block pioneers? They already can't drop settlements/outposts in foreign territory, so maybe they shouldn't be able to pass those borders (without some sort of grant/revokable permission)? Right now, military units get booted out if you declare war, and you can't attack without declaring war, which is another way o

If you look at the "offer tribute" treaty in the Diplomacy screen, it gives you a lot more info than the "player X offers you tribute" popup. I believe that it offers 10% of a faction's income and prevents either side from being able to declare war, and I think it lasts 30 turns by default (though I feel like I've gotten offers from an AI player that terminated more quickly than that).

The other thing to consider about beastlord is its utility depends heavily on the "world" settings. So if you're playing with extra monsters and extra wildlands and have the world difficulty set as high as possible and are using epic research speed, then yeah beastlord is pretty overpowering (though as far as I know the AI doesn't use it effectively). But if research is faster, and the world has fewer monsters, the advantage is less overwhelming. Honestly, if the iss

Can anyone tell me how to re-map the shortcut keys? I use a non-QWERTY layout on a non-standard keyboard, and many of the default keyboard shortcuts are very inconvenient. I'm fine with editing .ini or .xml files if I need to, but I haven't found where the keymap is defined. Anyone else figure this out? (Also, every game should enable re-mapping of keys in an in-game options menu. It's an easy feature to implement, and improves accessibility. /rant)</

Having just started a new game, the first city was built next to some enemies. When the enemies attack the city, the Sovereign is listed as the only defender; the two other starting units stationed in the city, as well as the militia, are not included in combat (resulting in game-over, since the starting level hero can't defeat the enemies). Consistently happens with the following savegame; sometimes takes a turn or two for the darklings to attack. <a href="https://dl.

Currently, it seems that any random peasant with the right backpack can go and start a new settlement anywhere he or she wants. I thought the whole point was that you needed a channeler to bring life (or death) to the wasteland so that civilization could grow? The current model not only leads to city-spam, it makes the sovereign redundant. In some of the earlier beta builds, the player needed to spend essence to found cities outside of their current influenc

The "end-of-turn" button is grayed-out, and remains so indefinitely (or at least, as long as I was willing to wait). Possibly an issue with AI code? I've linked to a savegame in which the issue has occurred; when the game is loaded, the end-of-turn button is grayed out, and remains that way. This is replicable for me across system reboots. In response to your list of "bugs," I can't speak for the circumstances under which they occurred, but they all sound like normal parts of the interface to me. The camera is, by default, set to "snap" back to a standard orientation to preserve the relative orientation of the main map and the mini-map. You can change it by de-selecting the appropriate check box in one of the options menus (I forget which). As for your number 2, this is also a feature, not a bug. There's a button (as I

As a response to the critique of PCs vs Consoles, I have to disagree. I've long been a PC gamer, though I've never had enough money to spend to be what one might call "hard core." I've never been a console gamer. Why? The main reason is that console games don't play the way I want them to. All consoles made so far are designed to use a hand held game pad with a small number of buttons (with the exception of the wii, which has its own interface limitations). This was fine back in the bad old

Okay people, there are several completely independent issues that are being discussed here. Please, please do not mix them together; doing so can only lead to confusion. It will never lead to a productive solution to any of the problems involved here. First off, I'll tackle the issue of pervasive DRM, which most people here seem to have ignored. Pervasive DRM is a very, very bad idea. This has absolutely nothing to do with piracy, morality or, copyright law. It doesn't even have to

I have also seen this behavior; the Krynn have just built three maxed-out (to their tech level) influence SBs right by my homeworld; I haven't built a single influence SB all game, so it's not retaliation. I've always thought it odd that building starbases in an opponent's territory wasn't considered a hostile act. I mean, putting influence SBs right next to a world is pretty aggressive in my book; military SBs (which I've also seen the AI put in my territory) even more so. It would b

It seems as though maybe the solution is to alter the trading priorities of minors; as it is, their behavior seems a bit odd. I mean, they can't make colony ships; why are they willing to trade so much for the extreme colonization techs? Perhaps they should place different values on their resources (relative to major AIs) to reflect their different status, so that they would be willing to trade a resource base for less than an entire empire.

I've been noticing in game after game lately that the minor races wind up with nearly all the galactic resources. If I work quickly, I usually manage to snag a handful; the other major races are lucky to have one or two in an Immense galaxy, with a difficulty of Tough. My guess is that this behavior results from the fact that the majors (including me) are busy churning out colony ships, while the minors are busy churning out constructors, but what it means is that most of the galactic resource
