There will be plenty of customization of the galaxy. We haven't finalized all the options but the number of planets or galaxy size is almost guaranteed.

Nice to see you again Reverend I can't remember what your exact requests were but we are trying to make it very easy for anyone to play around with the gameplay data, art, sound and music. You should be able to start basic modding even with the first beta though we won't be exposing everything or providing all the Forge tools until later.
We play on Dell 24inch widescreens at 1920x1200 so you can be sure it works great on widescreens
Alcari is right about the star being behind the camera and the glowly bit being a distant nebulae. If the camera was moved to the other side you would see the dark side of the ship and an appropriate lens flare. Now that I look closely there is actually another weapon hitting the shield. All weapons have unique impact effects and I know which one looks like that and it isn't a beam Rol
Sins is full 3d. You can choose to move ships up and down if you like or leave it to the AI to handle. There are various camera modes and we may add more based on feedback. All screenshots are taken using one of the camera option combinations that will be available in the beta. None of our screenshots are 'setup'. One of us usually has a save game of a big battle or something and then we move the camera around looking for a cool shot at a cool angle. For this particular
Your home planet starts with some basics down on the surface (you don't actually go down) which are effectively selectable upgrades and there are some basic buildings and ships in orbit. Once you've built up your empire enough you may choose to build ships that have many similarities to a hw2 mothership. However, in Sins, it is usually the case that nothing is more important than your home planet so protect it!
Since you played homeworld its probably best to draw a comparison to that. Homeworld was about taking your fleet and engaging other fleets. Essentially, your mothership was your homebase and there were resource units floating around. When you defeated the other fleet the game was over. In Sins, your home base is initially a planet and you build stuff on the surface and in orbit. This would include things like cities, mining facilities, resource buildings, orbital
If you read up on the Sins lore you will see why there are no organics ships at the particular time and place of this stage of the story. This isn't to say there aren't organic ships in the Sins universe - just not during these events.
Dominions 3 for me! Other than Sins, this is the game I spent the most time playing
Currently, nobody has to agree - any player can opt to save the game at any point and then every player receives a copy of the save game. Save games can be exchanged. The save game you have determines the player you are so if you swap with player B, when you load up the game again, you will be him and he will be you. I should point out that multiplayer beta is aways off and this may change.
Last night was AWESOME!!!
Yes, it is in game. It is a screenshot with text and logos added.
There isn't currently a button on the GUI to make it go away (yet) but you can hit ctrl-shift-z to make it disappear. Skins for each race are in development. Only the TEC one has been shown so far.
I can't say which ship is which because it would be giving out to much but I can answer some of the other questions. If the ship looks like heavy gray metal, chunky, industrial or economic it is TEC. If it looks elegant, sleek or majestic and shiney it is probably Advent and if it is dark, 'scarab'-like with glowey parts with some weird protrusions or wing like structures it is probably Vasari. W/r to colors. Each race has certain sections of the ship that are colo
Yes. Z,X,and C (defaults) correspond to tactical, planetary and solar system zoom levels. I rarely use the mouse wheel anymore other than for fine corrections.
The fourth question down gives a brief answer to this: http://www.killerbetties.com/sins_of_a_solar_empire_interview_blair_fraser?page=0%2C2
You can hand place them or click a button to have the AI to place them for you. So really, it's up to you whether or not its more like Starcraft or more like GalCiv. I prefer to hand place my most important buildings and then autoplace everything else (esp if I'm busy elsewhere).
You can hear a portion of one of the Advent tracks in the trailer.
Thanks guys, the artists and graphics/shaders programmers appreciate the comments. We'll continue to improve the graphics until the game is released
You can play without the keyboard but there are hotkeys, they are remappable and by default they use spatial mnemonics instead of letter mnemonics. Even though we intended for keyboard support, its a good design philosophy to design it for a mouse because it helps keeps things organized, symmetric, transparent and accessible. The number of options on the keyboard can make it very easy to lose control over each of these categories and you are more likely to end up w
All the ol'timers have probably seen it, but there are lots of newcomers who don't know anything about it and I'm sure it will bring in some new faces Be sure to welcome to them...nicely! hehe (and be thankful for more multiplayer fodder - but ssssh, I didn't say that! )
1. Dogfights all the way! Every fighter is a unique entity with its own AI, targetting priorities, weapon systems, engines etc. However, to keep things manageable, they are controlled as squadrons. You can see a few squads in action here: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2006/289/935993_20061017_screen002.jpg . 2. Yes, it is possible for battles to last long enough to bring in reinforcements f
Sins was designed from day one for both single and multiplayer. Internet play will be over Ironclad Online. After the single player beta, there will be a multiplayer beta so you can check it out. If you are interested, it would be a great chance to help us track down any lag issues and perfect the balance. For those of you who are looking ahead , you will also be able to get a leg up on the competition before release <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/T
Yep, you can save a multiplayer game and all games are set to record automatically (though you can turn this feature off).
you know what would be sweet? some rear-cannon type ships that are meant to cover defense... Some ships have rear bank weapons.
